Went into JB HiFi once not long ago and was looking for an iPod dock for a Yammy RV1800, told the guy exactly what we where after and he then spent the next 5minutes telling us to buy a like $30+ Heahphone -> RCA cable and said it was the best way and would provide the best sound etc
He was right (bar the fact he said you should buy a $30 cable).
The ipod's dock output has a lot of problems.

Now back OT, I went into a big chain store about dec last year and asked if the ipod touch had video playlists (like the rest of the video ipods), he talked down to me (like how dare I ask such a stupid Q) and said that all video ipods had it...... I went ok and bought the thing.
He lied, for some odd reason apple did not program video playlists into the touch, so I tried to take it back but they whined and tried to not give me my money back...... I had to yell the Qld trade practices act at the manager to get a refund!

The thing in this information age of ours now is we have so much access to info via the net. Even the most non tech savy person can do a google search and have thousands of pages of info on what they plan to buy. People find multiple reviews, get opinions and discussion from forums like this one and go to shops well equipped with knowledge on their intended purchase. Unless the salesperson is an audiophile/videophile  then I think its just unrealistic to expect them to know a lot about the shear volume of stuff that is in and churns over in the electronic industry. Dont get me wrong im not letting salespeople off the hook for poor service or claiming to know things they dont, but I think we just need to keep the above points in mind not expect too much more than basic knowledge and a good price. Food for thought anyways.
Cheers Khye

there is no excuse for bs.  If a sales person doesn't know the answer they should simply say "I'll have to find out".  I don't expect them to know everything, but if they can get the answer for me I consider it good service.

Lying to customers is deceptive, deceitful and potential criminal conduct and sales people who do so deserve to get shamed.

Don't see the belittling myself? And I don't think people hate salesmen, just the ones that bs. I don't know about boosting ego's? I don't know the OP's driver when they did, but your post, what was your main reason?

It appears in reading it that it wasn't to make friends and influence people, it wasn't to add any value, perhaps it was to belittle others and boost your ego? See, that is the problem with posting on a forum that perhaps you meant something completely different by what you wrote, but others intepret it incorrectly. Maybe you should afford the OP that courtesy without judging why they posted?

That's because the offending posts have been removed by the mods.

I don't think people hate salesmen either I just hate it when they lie.

A few weeks ago in JB the salesman was giving a lady customer the BS spiel,so I listened in..

Oh! and this Samsung is Soooo superior to evey other panel in the shop (atmittadly it was tuned exceptionally).Just look how it makes tis Pioneer Kuro look so dull and flat, why pay so much more for such an inferior picture,on and on and on...he went.

This woman really came to check the Kuro and it was clear that hubby sent her down to check it out.Anyhow she made a quick exit..
Then over he came to me and started agian with the over the top dramatics.

So what do think, isn't it soooo much better??? he asked.

My reply was simply, how did you detune it to look like the worst panel in the store acatually as bad as SD without any effort to present it..Surely no one would install that??

He just glared...

Hey they did a lovely job with the Sammy, but I've seen a Kuro presented at its best aswell.....Tool!

Boy they must have done something pretty nasty to the Kuro to make the Sammy look better than it.

Exactly my thoughts.

So how honest is that approach to sales.

You know the type of sales guy which is so loud all knowing obnoxious and just keeps telling it the way it is (in his eyes anyhow <_< ) talking over the customer......tool!!

Not very honest at all, obviously Samsung were offering higher incentives that month.

I really hate overbearing, and not just in salesmen.

To be honest, most of the 'hi fi home theatre' staff at JB have that attitude. Ive not been asked once for help whenever ive gone in there, with the bad haircut staff members choosing 'easy prey'.

I guarantee that samsung were offering bonuses that month, and that any manufacturer offering a bonus will have their tv looking extra special while the offer is on.

thats exactly what happens !! whichever model/brand has the biggest rebates/kickbacks for that month gets priority when pushing sales.. although unethical it is legit and i can understand the commission based staff to be wanting to maximise their coin for the month!!

Except they wouldn't want to be caught by the manufacturers doing it as it isn't ethical and they can be contractually liable depending on the supply contract.

That has been my impression also (same as SDL) unless one gets the latest and greatest with high refresh rates.
And even then I'm not so sure.

Thats not true, go and look at a good LCD and a good plasma side by side, they both look about the same.

It sounds like you got a not very good LCD, try looking at a good LCD for once.

Sounds like you have very little understanding. The motion blur phenomena on LCD is well documented. Some companies have brought out '100Hz' technologies that supposedly fix motion blur, but most of these when tested have introduced another issue, haloing effect. Now I am not suggesting which is better, I have both, and both are good for the uses I put them to and I am happy with them. But perhaps you can tell me in your opinion, as you must be so much more learned, what the issue is with Panasonic Vieira LCD's and which models I should have gone for?

The "100hz" tech is something that has very little to do with blur, what it does is take two frames and make up data in between the frames, It is a way to get rid of judder, Plasmas also have the same (100hz) tech!!!!!! (which was also in some CRTs to get rid of flicker).

It is YOU that has very little understanding!

Also it is clear that you are a fanboy, GROW UP!

LMFAO, fanboy of what? I know what 100Hz technology is, that is why I put it in exclamation marks. You will go really well on this site
