I Hate Salesmen Bs

As an example today I enquired with Retravision (I have a friend that works there so I get good prices) if they could get me a price on a Yammy 663, I was handed over to their audio expert who tried to sell me a Cambridge Audio reciever. I told him I needed a reciever that at the minimum would accept 7.1 LPCM over HDMI. He tells me I don't need this as I can just run optical. I replied that optical dosen't have the bandwidth to support the newer DD True HD and DTS-MA. He then asks me where I heard this! When told it was common knowledge he refuted it and went on to say HDMI is going to be pulled in 2 years with a newer HDMI plug!
FFS I think its about time salesmen were held accountable to the crap the sell. Ban the salemen kickbacks, make it Illegal. The amount of times I have seen people take up rentsmart / belkin / etc. products because a salesman recommended. The only reason they recommend is the kickbacks! (Rentsmart used to offer the salesman $100 Coles-myer voucher for each sucker signed up, Belkin offers Belkin goods to the salesman when a figure has been reached)
End the public deception!
Sorry rant over now.

The IT industry are beginning to use the "display port" connector, replacing DVI and possibly HDMI. The advantages of DP over DVI may apply to HDMI also.
Also, a mate of mine has been harping on about HDMI being replaced for about a year now. Maybe he wasn't completely full of it.

I dont think he was feeding you BS as such, I just think he was dumb and lacked basic knowledge of the industry. The Cambridge would be musically better than the Yamaha, but of course thats not the reason he was giving you.

AMD, Dell, Genesis Microchip, Hewlett-Packard, Molex, NVIDIA, Philips, Samsung and Tyco Electronics are supporters of DisplayPort;
Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips, Sony, Silicon Image, Thomson and Toshiba compose the primary backers of HDMI.
It looks that its mostly PC hardware manufacturers pushing Displayport while Electronics manufacturers pushing HDMI.
I think Display Port will be PC hardware only, can't see it going any further.
But this is slightly off the main topic of what I really wanted to address, which really is about not having any idea about DTS-MA requirements.

I remember well when the DVI port was going to be the in thing.
It never eventuated,I think HDMI will be here for a long long time.

To many stories i have been told by people who have been caught out when buying from retailer's, i just feel sorry for the people who get sucked in.
HDMI will be around for many year's to come, as long as you follow the bullshit rule...walk as soon as you hear it.

Apparently this guy is their audio expert who originally worked at a specialist shop here called "Sight & Sound" This shop has been closed for a couple of years and I gather this guy hasn't kept up with all the ins and outs.

STrangely enough the audio guy there was quite knowledgeable. Quite surprised and was a reall turn around for JB. Especially considering the amount of times I overhear them telling people Soniq make everything themselves and are a really big manufacturer of TVs

people are only caught out if they accept such rubbish. It's been said a number of times but the contract is between the purchaser and the retailer and the retailer by law has a responsibility to honour statutory warranty as well as selling goods that are free from defect, are of merchantable quality, and are suitable to be used for the function they are sold for. Retailers continue to claim to unknowing consumers that they deal with the manufacturer or that the goods won't be replaced, it just takes putting your demands in writing to the manager for most stores to start treating you appropriately.

There are a lot of intelligent people in specialist stores. After all they live and breathe the stuff.
I expect them to tell me what I need to hear and give me the best deal they can within the constraints that they work under. But i don't expect them to loose money.
