I'm trying to find out what causes intermittant audio dropouts. We recently replaced our antenna with a Hills HD2 and RG6 (quad) thoughout with F-type connectors including fly leads. We are in Southern Adelaide with line of sight to Mt Lofty.

Prior to the upgrade we received frequent "popping" on Channel 10 however now these seem to have stopped but we are getting intermittant audio dropouts for a seccond, again mainly Channel 10. It seems worse in inclement weather. It is more noticable on 1 particular STB, but we watch most TB on this unit so that may not be a valid observation (I haven't swapped the box yet to test).

M'Bozo reccommended at the time we may need an amp as we have a 6-way split... our signal on analogue is very good picture / sound wise. M'Bozo estimated a signal strength of 70db at the antenna (-10.5db for the split plus cable loss) after the upgrade based on our signal strength prior to the upgrade and his experience with the Hills antennas.

Does this sound like a low signal strength issue or interference... given it worsens on bad weather I suspect it's external (signal strenght / interference through antenna in bad conditions). There is no picture breakup / popping, just a brief audio droppout.

I'd prefer some input before I buy an amp.

Thanks in advance.

There is a known problem with Ch 10 audio at the moment, experiencing dropouts.

There's another thread on this issue, which is affecting Ch 10 audio in several states.

If your pictures are not breaking up and the audio problem is only on Ch 10, then your antenna/signals are probably ok.
