Hoping for some help finding a HD PVR for my grandmother in law.

Wanting a recommendation on something under $600, at least 320gb, and no internet connection required for day to day use (firmware updates can be done at my mother in laws, but no internet day to day).

Freeview crippled is fine, and I'd prefer a PVR that would run the latest freeview guide for ease of use, it also has to be incredibly easy to use like the TIVO, which unfortunately requires a permanent internet connection.

Absolutely no need for any computer filetypes to play on it.

A fantastic bonus would be a built in bluray player, as she is also wanting to upgrade the DVD player but struggles with switching aux inputs on the TV and it would be easier to just leave the TV on one channel. However if this isn't possible I'm thinking of pointing her toward a Samsung Anynet bluray player to go with her Samsung TV, so it will auto switch aux when a bluray is inserted.

I've been trying to search, but most of what I can find is from 2008 or 2010.

Just checking terminology - do you mean the Freeview guide or the Free To Air (FTA) guide? They are completely different, despite Freeview's attempts to con the public into believing the that ''Freeview'' and Free To Air television are the same thing.

Freeview is the way to go if your interested in series recording without an internet connection.

Still don't seem to be a lot of Freeview boxes yet though. The main one noted on this forum is the MagicTV. There's a big thread about it although most of it will be talking about the non-freeview model. Generally very well received and the price is very good. Remote looks reasonably friendly too.

You can find one here for $330.

...
Sicarius, you might want to have a look at Dr P's postings on the reliability of the Freeview EPG for series recording before you decide on it.

However, there is really no absolutely reliable series recording setup other than, perhaps, the TiVo, though discussion of the TiVo has gone very quiet on the DTV forum of late. I'm a fairly long-time IceTV subscriber, and there are definitely some problems with that, though I find them OK to live with.

I recent;y bought an LG HR925T from Costco for around $380.  It has a Blu-ray player, and is easy to operate.  If you are a member of Costco, then you can get one there and if your grandmother-in-law doesn't like it for any reason, then you can return it and get your money back.  :)

I forgot, it has 500 gig storage, and twin tuners.
