Yes and they only did it to match Good Guys who offered me that price. I just have to wait for it now.

Does anyone know whether the PIP is supported over all outputs or only on HDMI? Curious question...

Also, do the HD channels output on any connection type? The manual indicates you can only view SD but I am guessing that you can still watch a program broadcast in HD but you will only get SD quality...

PIP is on all video outlets, as are subtitles and the same video is output to all outlets.

Basically you just pick the best to suit your TV or projector and set the video format to Auto (pass through) or a specific setting 576i, 576p, 720p or 1080i. If you use Auto but you TV has problems with a particular setting then you can account for that in the Auto setting by say forcing 720p to 1080i for example.

These comments apply equally to the 7000 and 7100PVRt.

Thanks for that. I would be using S-video with an old CRT tv but still want to be able to access the HD channels.

STBs/PVRs output plain old fashioned analogue signals. That's what they are designed for ... translating new digital in to old analogue so that your existing TV can 'understand' the signal. So yes, plug and HD STB into a old SRT TV and you will be able to view the HD channels, just not in HS picture quality.

Screen capture, sorry. There's pause and you can take a photo of the screen. :)
If I really want a screen capture from the 7000, I transfer the file to the PC and grab the shot I want from a video editor. Not as nice as a tap on the 5000, but it works. On the 7100 should be quite easy.

Guys

I recently bought the Tivo as a means to retire my HTPC (Being forced to more like it), i found the Tivo good in terms of functionality and i was suffering banding and pixelation that i did not on my HTPC of Beyonwiz. I tried everythingi could before taking the unit back to get replaced, while i was out i called past Power House and desided to take a Toppy 7100 home hearing good things about it.

Ok as i have found out the auto download of the EPG is not currently working but will be available very soon

Somebody had mentioned in a another thread the the Beyonwiz was a good PVR and a good Media player and the Toppy was a great PVR

So far from what i have seen i could not agree more, the PQ on the Toppy is tops, i have not suffred banding and minimal pixelation, this unit is a keeper  for sure, cant to see the rest in action

Thanks Glenn,

That makes me happy to read as I have pre-ordered a Topp 7100 and backs up what I knew with the Toppy 7000.

Just a quick question does the 7100 support setting timers by automatic keyword search? Not through IceTv but through the onscreen epg like Jags epg? What about the Beyonwiz?

Thanks

No.

What about the Beyonwiz?
It that a kitchen appliance, like an eggbeater (sorry, couldn't help myself  :D  but I think the answer is also no).

Hi all,

Well I got one, DSE Nunawading in Melbourne. It was supposed to be their diplay model, had a sticker on the box and on the unit itself "Display model only, not for sale." Wasn't out of the box yet and I guess they wanted the sale! Got it for $899 with 5 year extended warranty. Oh well.

A few points which may be of interest to others. Most of these observations are from direct comparison with my old Toppy 5000.

Rgs,
Psychlone.

My favourite button on the 5000 is the red 3-minute jump button. But reading the 7100 manual it seems ads can only be skipped in 30 sec jumps and that button is not programmable, whereas the Jump Back button is programmable.
Have I got this right Psychlone? If so, how annoying is having to push the button 6-7 times on each ad break?
Cheers,
Max

You really have to experience how quick the 30 sec skip is, compared to anything else you have experienced, to understand why it's not at all annoying when you consider the flexibility it gives.

For example for the 30 sec add break watching the Cricket - 1 press, for a typical commercial channel add break 6 or 7 presses. So in a sense it's fully variable in 30 sec steps and programmed to suit the particular situation and fully controlled by your finger on the remote and my experience with both the 7000 and 7100 shows it's not at all annoying.

Hi,

Is the Topfield 7100 able to "serve" recordings to another box via the wireless LAN?   Similar to the Beyonwiz DP-S1 & DP-H1 combination?

Which Topfield boxes can be the client?

Cheers,

Mick.

I don't think so. The WLAN is for FW updates, IceTV and file transfers only

I'd concur with this.  Unless you have actually tried this out for yourself you won't be able to appreciate just how fast this skip happens.
It does sound like a pain to press the button 6-7 times to skip through a standard add break, but in reality it is lightning quick (and I am not exaggerating)....

There is no red 3-minute jump button in the standard 5000 firmware. You must have a TAP that is providing that function. As others have said this is not really an issue on the 7x00 as the skip buttons are so quick to respond. (I have had a 5000 as well) And the FFWD/REW is MUCH better that the 5000.

Also a 7100 can "serve" playbacks to a computer on the network via FTP. I do it to my PC.

cheers,
John

Thanks, Dave, John and Robert - most reassuring to hear that. The 7100 does sound like a great advance over the 5000...can't wait to get one now.

Hmmmmm..

Almost ordered one today at GG for $750. I's a good thing I decided to hold off going by the prices I've seen here.

I just rang Harvey Norman to see if my ordered TF-7100PVRt had arrived yet. They didn't have it but said they would call Topfield and get right back to me as I have prepaid it ($689) and the guy was true to his word and rang back within a couple of hours. They are being re released on Monday and will be shipped same day. Seems they have fixed the firmware issues so I should have mine by end of next week at the latest.

I think DSE had first dibs at the new release. No they are shipping to other stores on Monday so will be a few days off for delivery. BTW..what price did u get it for from DSE?
The reason I ask is because DSE here weren't gonna budge on full retail of $799
