Hi Guys,

Just a quick question.

My friend went to the Good Guys and bought a 50 inch Samsung Full HD plasma and a Samsung DVD Recorder however the DVD recorder only has analogue tuner which looks woeful on a 50inch screen. I have notcied there are also DVD Recorders with Digital tuners and hard drives. Am I correct in assuming that you can record onto the hard drive the digital tv stream? If so this seems a much better option and will try and exchange for one with a digital tuner and hard drive.

Anybody got any recommendations? I would suggest a PVR to him however looking at the Good Guys website they don't seem to sell them.

You need a DVD-R with a digital tuner to record Digital TV however that wont help if you want to record the new HD channels.
For that you will need a device with a HD tuner and at present that can only be done with a PVR with HD tuner.
The Good Guys do sell PVR's so your best bet would be to ring the store and ask which PVR's they sell and see which suit's your mate.

My local GG's say no PVR's until mid march and then only LG...and if they advised your friend as to the best combo with the Samsung 50" it was poor advice at best <_< . Personally i would take the DVD-r back for a refund and go somewhere else for more competent advice.

Samsung, LG, Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic all make DVDRs with SD tuner which your local GG should stock (or at least be able to order in). I m sure the same would go for PVRs like the Topfield, Beyonwiz and Homecast.

Just ask them to order it in.
