dr rod,

I picked up my xe1 this afternoon at Clive Peeters in Thomastown (there is one left), the price they advertised was $570, took me 30 seconds to get it down to $520, probably would have gottten it down to $500 but I couldn't be bothered haggling.
Before that I went to JB HiFi in Epping, they have none there but was able to get one in from another store, and have it to me by next week, I told him I need it asap and that I would drive to the store that had it in stock and pick it up.
There advertised price was $599 and $100 cashback offer by redemption, I did my homework, correct me if I'm wrong, but Toshiba does not do cashback on the XE1 (Check Toshiba's website), only the EP10 and E1 are cashback, when I told him that there was no cashback for this model, he tried to convince me otherwise and would not drop the price, I told him, have a good afternoon.
So if you or anyone happen to go to JB Hifi, just be warned about the cashback offer.

Now, Monday afternoon, I will be receiving my Pioneer LX508a, can't wait.
Tay:

I got my Toshiba E1 in November for $439 plus the 4 disks and $100 cashback which was pretty cheap at the time.

Anyway, sounds like for the XE1 you got a great deal.

In spite of Warner making a blu, I am still very happy with HD-DVD and I think you will be too.

Poetic.

Well, just picked up one for $530 from Lonsdale St JB's. There were 4 more in stock. Had Bourne Supremecy in the box, which I already had. Oh well. First impressions are good - picture looks great on the 60" SXRD. It's a bit clunkier to use over the PS3 unit, but really once it's showing the movie it doesn't matter too much :).

i ended up getting the xe1 from jb lonsdale also for 530. all i asked for was 'whats the best you can do?' and i was able to layby it also. the guy who sold me the player was nice enough to remind me that in order to get the redemption movies, i would need to have it paid in full by end of march.

Well while most stores are dropping their prices on Toshiba Players, there are some that were obviously price gouging before the price drops.

Was in the local Hardly's this morning to look at stoves but couldn't help but have a sticky in the HT section, anyway we walked past a plasma with an E1 hooked up to it and out of curiosity I had a look at the price sticker on it.

I have to say the whole store must have heard my reaction (son was looking for somewhere to hide) when I saw the price of $1099. ON an E1. :o  :o  :o

We took a photo, please excuse the quality, my son took it on his mobile while we were trying not to be sprung.

I am still completely gobsmacked.

Yep kazz, did you ask if thats the correct price, with a"I thought thes came down recently tag on.?"

My xe1 still had a 1299 sticker on it but the guy was very quick to tell me it was much cheaper, bu this store had teh actuall press release posted on all their toshi products. I think they still have about 8 players in stock the $A399 model.which they had for $380..

Nope after my rather vocal reaction (no swearing) there were suddenly no salesmen to be found.

Wonder why.

I picked up my XE1 at Clive Peeters Auburn. Salesman didn't have any left in stock so he got one shipped to me from the Mt Druitt store. Also gave me a very decent price of $525.

Despite not needing anything more for my HT, I was in HN the other day and noticed a Toshiba flat panel offered with a bonus free HD player. Now the player was individually priced at $399 (EP10???) but the bonus offer claim on the flat panel was still for $799. So they seem to be a bit slow resetting their value equations for HD players.

no mate it means they are not bringing more hdxe1 in the country due to cost of making the player, they will have the hdep10 and hde1 , then bring in the ep30-35 in a little while

hddvduser,

What is you take on the general situation - Will Toshiba fight on, or reconsider their financial exposure to potential losses ?

Mate, what is the no BS answer on Toshi's plans?
Toshiba just isn't doing enough. Not just machines, nor cheap prices and redemptions, but I guess I am looking for real action.

Perhaps they should buy Sony or a major Hollywood studio

In other news, World War I is also over, and WWII doesn't look like lasting much longer either.
