Given hddvduser says stock will run low, is this a move to try to get more players in the market and get more sales to push HD DVD in the eyes of the Studios for a market grab, or a stock clearance? Hope its the former, but it will take more than price, advertising media and POS is important.

Its the same as was before.

Unfortunately the links to the previous redemption offers have been removed from the redemption site.

Hopefully it will be updated soon, and hopefully the available titles will be a bit different ...

the price drop will happen world wide mate so nz will get it to.........
I wouldn't bet on that! Besides...I want my XE1 NOW! :)

I've tried Googling for online Aussie retailers but I'm surprise how few,
if any, hits I get.

Some of the stores, like Goodguys have websites but not ones where
you can place an order (unlike NZ which at least has a few)

Even HN and JB don't seem to have sites for purchasing.

And it's a wonder that a big outfit like Myer hasn't gotten into ecommerce.

How long will it take before the new prices actually take effect in the shops?

I doubt that I could walk in to David Jones and tell them that the
XE1 they have in stock at RRP $1399.00 is now only $599 and they'd sell it to me - yeah right!

Mind you it would be pretty difficult for me to wander in to DJs from where
I am at the moment!

im sure some1 in australia would be happy to help you get one sent there as long as you pay or organise the cost ... if you dont want to wait a week in nz.. you can even pay with the sheep money..

Plus any further discount you can negotiate ;)
XE1 for under 500 bucks, that's very tempting!

I will have more info in 30 minutes or less, but there is a price drop coming very soon...

E1 - $299 + Titles via redemption
EP10 - $399 + Titles via redemption
XE1 - $599 + Tiles via redepmption
more when i get it.

Great news, I'll be swapping the XA2 for a region free XE1

I know I'm going to get shot down in flames for saying this -
but...

My opinion is that it's a firesale by Toshiba and that they're dumping stock.

Just had a thought, this is going to be a bummer for anyone who already owns an XE1 and was looking to sell it due to the Warners decision, their players just lost half of their value.

real Aussie dollars.

Maybe I should just keep an eye on ebay for a "deal" at $300.00! :)

Wow – to be honest I was thinking of getting a HD-DVD player until the Warner’s announcement. At these prices, even if HD-DVD were to die, it wouldn’t be too much of a loss and it would still serve me well as an upscaling dvd player.

Seeing I know absolutely nothing about HD-DVD – a few questions?

1. Difference between the EP10 and XE1 – is the XE1 worth the higher price (note my equipment on my sig)

2. Where would be the best place to get one in Sydney? Is it better buying in store or online?

Any help would be most appreciated.

the other issue which hasnt been touched on at these new prices, does it now become a more viable option to stock for high turnover outlets as opposed to the hifi store / high price bulk stores - will this be the trigger for the Big Ws, Kmarts, Good Guys and Targets to get it an sell ? if one of these did run with the ball, the catalogue exposure alone will trigger a sales increase and bring awareness to the mass market.

i am also having trouble keeping my CC back in the wallet....its like it has eyes and ears :)

I've just got back from two weeks in Thailand - I was going to cancel my HD-XE1 order which has literally just be delivered to the dealer after a 4 week delay (mainly caused by the Xmas shutdown).

I've told the dealer I'll pay the new RRP but not the original price.

To be honest at this stage I don't care whether it is a fire sale or not. I'll happily take an HD-XE1 for $600 - the cheapest HQV Reon machine by far let alone the HD capabilities.

It's impossible to say whether something is "worth" the extra money because it's up to the individual but there are more than a couple of people here who bypassed the EP10 for the XE1 and a few more who upgraded their EP10 for an XE1.  Obviously to those people (and I include myself amongst them) the answer is yes.

But you do have to consider the equipment you're going to plug it into and (with the greatest respect) I don't really know that you'd get to really see or hear the value out of the XE1 over the EP10. Having said that, its entirely up to you and your budget.

1. HQV Reon scaler for Sd-DVD - only found in the $1600 Denon 2930 and above. Very, very good scaler.
   HD audio bitstreaming out
   Mulit-channel Analog audio out
   Build quality
2. Go for somewhere with stock - ring round the Clive Peters, Harvey Normans to check stock and the new price.
My HD-XE1 has only come into stock at my dealer after 4 weeks (in part due to Xmas shutdown but also due to Toshiba not having too much stock of HD-XE1 anyway according to my dealer).
So better to get one you can actually walk away with the box for.

Doh you have missed out.

The way I look at this is its a no brainer. Worse case the XE1 is a great upscaler and with 11 free movies to boot......

I just hope they are decent titles. Never thought I would say this buy HD DVD hear i come...

Only $1K, think about those of us that bought only 4 months ago that paid well over $1K - its really the price of early adoption I can accept.
