Hi Folks

Having just bought an HDTV almost all I ever see on the HD channels is the promo loops, which are pretty good, but tedious after a while.

I've tried the on-line guides (well, the ones I know of) and I can't find anything.  Is there actually a real guide anywhere or is it a question of just surfing the HD channels periodically in the hope something turns up?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Ron

Go to: http://yourtv.com.au/guide/ and click on individual programs they will tell you if it is on HD or not. Also if you add these programs to your personal guide {after registering - free} when you access your personal guide they automatically tell you if they are broadcast in HD....

Thanks for that, it's something at least.  Not tremendously efficient though... (Not your fault of course!)

What I'd like is a site which actually listed the HD channels separately, so you can see just what is available at a glance.  Maybe I'll have to create one, although having had some involvement with creating the EPG for ozTiVo I'm well aware of the issues with the copyrighting of guide data. That said,  the decision in the case between IceTV and channel 9 makes it (I think) somewhat less likely that anybody will assert their rights over guide data in the future, so long as program descriptions are not copied word for word.

Cheers
Ron

I've been a "YourTV" user for a while, originally using the "ACT" profile. When "7HD" came along I changed my profile to "Southern NSW", as it used to include 7HD, whereas "ACT" didn't. But now "7HD" has disappeared from "Southern NSW" as well, so now I'm about to try "Sydney".

My ideal would be to have a "roll your own", where you can choose channels from anywhere, so that I could include Imparja as well.

About the time that YourTV became TVFix the ads started being laid on thick and fast, but the Adblock plus add-on for Firefox has put paid to them. :)

I've been using the IceTV widget for my Mac ( www.icetv.com.au ) which lists a couple of channels (can't remember which, on my linux workstation) - and has support for more coming in 2008 I believe.

Just found there's a Windows client too.   It's not a complete list of HD shows yet - but for the channels it covers it's an easy overview without having to check each individual program to see if they're in HD..

The best place to find out what high definition programming is on is in this very forum. Go to the topic 'What's in High Definition This Week'. This is normally fairly reliable for Canberra programming.

YourTV / TVFix doesn't even include the ABC under "Canberra" now.

Do you think it has anything to do with YourTV/TVFix being run by ninemsn?  In a month all that will be listed is channel 9

NOTE: ABC is back again but still no 7HD listing.

As an electrical retailer operating in Canberra I find the lack of information on what is really happening in our market from the DBA or the broadcasters out in HD land singularly bemusing! one would think that it was in their best interests to keep us up to date rather than work it out for ourselves! about the most definitive answer we can give our customers on the topic of when more complete HD programming will be available is "not yet!"

Anyone ever experience problems picking up ABC HD channels? I used to be able to get these channels from griffith/red hill, but since moving north side, i can't get ABC HD channels!

Thanks and sorry for posting it here - I can't create a new topic :)

NSW Central Coast seems to be a pretty good match for Canberra.  It includes Prime, SC10 and 7HD.  NBN is slightly different to Win but not too much (mainly NBN doesn't screen local news)

I’m not sure when SC10 started multichanneling on their HD channel in Canberra, but last night I noticed that SC10 HD was screening "Pollock" whilst the SD channel had Letterman. I didn’t bother watching for long, but what I did notice was that every time Letterman on SD went to an ad break, Pollock on HD went to the HD promo loop, and when it came back, it wasn’t where it had left off, ie; it appeared to be missing chunks equivalent to the ad break duration.

So it’s similar to when SC10 SD and HD are showing the same program, and when there’s an ad break the HD channel gets promo loop, whilst the SD channel gets the ads, but in this case, with different programs, it makes a mess of the HD program.

Oh and Pollock didn’t get a mention in the info panel; it was still flagged as the HD demo.

When Letterman started last night, SC10 HD was still running their HD demo loop; no sign of a movie. I meant to go back and check it again later, but fell asleep watching one of the currently unencrypted Foxtel channels.

I checked earlier in the evening -- between 8:30 and 10:00 -- when TEN HD was supposed to be showing different shows. Only the HD loop was on.

Miami is USUALLY on HD, but {at my house at least} for some reason was not broadcast last night.. {Looks like the old ALTERNATE method of getting the program will have to occur again this week.....}

Bloody terminator last night was out of synch. I couldn't stand watching it with the lips moving and the half second delay on voices.

I have to say I'm pretty pissed at WinHD, haven't been impressed with their quality so far. Also Underbelly had better be on WinHD and in synch or I'll be very unimpressed.

Another point why can't SC ten and win just do permanent SD broadcast on their HD channel and just put the HD programming on for shows that are available? Seems to work well for Prime and SBS?

Another thing do the HD channels get the Sydney broadcast or something? Noticed sometimes the shows are completely different.

Oh and when are SBS going to get an EPG!

Posts in other sections of the forum now mention Q4 2008 as the starting date, but SC10 HD in Canberra had IPL on a little while ago (I'm not interested in cricket, just noticed as I was changing channels). They'd go to HD demo loop briefly sometimes, but as I type this it would seem that they're staying on the demo loop this time. When the IPL was on, the logo was the standard TEN one in the top right corner.
