I totally agree with Hosko. The pricing of the channels is fair, and so is the IQ2 monthly price. But $200 to install it? Gimme a break. A few cables (which I already have and are better quality than what would be supplied) to unplug and plug back in, a box to shift and a card to activate... yeh, $200 and probably 15 mins work. What a crock.

The $200 is their way of keeping the ongoing price down, most people will have the spare $200 to pay, it then seems that they only have to stump up an extra $15 a month.

If they didn't have the $200 but charged $30 a month MORE people would be upset. They have worked out what they need to recoup each month, and also the $200 install fee gives them money up front to pay for extra staff at the call cntre!

As someone who was thinking about getting a HD PVR, this seems like a reasonable deal to me.
$200 for the unit, which is theirs so they'll replace it if it breaks, and then another $25 per month for the service.
Not bad i say, but i'm on cable so i'll benefit more than satellite viewers i suppose.

Drop that install fee to about $100 and I will start thinking about it. $200 is robbery.

As soon as they work out how to attach the IQ2 directly to your wallet.   ;)

Just spoke to Alastair in Foxtel HD and got install date of 2nd of June between 7 and 12.  :D  BTW I found the best way to get onto HD section was to call new installs and they knew and put me straight through to HD section where as the other departments said it hadn't been released yet.

I was on the full platinum package with IQ 1 so go the Platinum HD package for IQ2 and they are moving my existing IQ1 to replace the standard box in the bedroom. Current monthly cost with IQ1 platinum and extra standard box in bedroom is $130.00 new cost for IQ2 HD+ and IQ1 in bedroom is $145.00 so $15 extra a month for IQ2 HD and now with IQ1 in bedroom.

Cheers Al

It's a buggy website still - is there any new info on the channels etc?  I'm chasing detailed info on what AFL and NRL will be shown in HD.

Now that I've picked myself up off the floor.........
$200 to install a box that does not have all the advertised features enabled. A rental fee on said box each month.
Then the hide to say we want iQ1 to be the standard box, but hang on, we want you to pay more than iQ2.
No one is that stupid?

Was the 'install' fee $200?  And do you have to go on a 24 month contract?

Can you just do a quick breakdown on how it's only costing you $15 extra for iQ2 HD+

I've also got 2 iQ's at the moment, isn't the deal for iQ2 and HD channels, $25 extra a month?

Even if you are transferred to the department you will still need to join the queue and wait on hold.

Surprisingly affordable - what a crock of sh*t.
l
I defy any so-called Foxtel installer to understand and correctly install the IQ2 in my system.

I notice that the $200 is not called an installation fee, but upgrade!! If you take the IQ2 box only I don’t see that as a world breaking upgrade. . .

At the present time I’m on Platinum which includes 2 free movies per month - so when they remove the ”free” option they are in fact showing a ”ghost” increase in pricing.

The highly paid Foxtel execs have no idea of real world pricing and early adopters will once again pay the price for their loyal support.

If any of you can recollect the Blog where they demonstrated buying a movie it was shown as 25 cents!! $6.95 is a massive leap.

I have calculated that if I downgrade from Platinum to the following: Get started ($37.95), My complete movies ($28.95), My escape, My playtime and My world ($25.95), IQ2 ($10) and HD Explore $9.95) I’m not into sports and don’t need the magazine - the costing would be $112.80 approx $7 more than I pay now - that is worthwhile IMO.

At least you got through, all I get is the engaged signal and none of the web links will get through either.

They must have sent out a hell of a lot of emails in the last hour or so.

Hmmm, that seems to be about $10 cheaper than it should be. Maybe there actually is a sweetener for existing IQ1 multi room customers.

By my calcs:

$130 Platinum HD including one IQ2 box and complete HD subscription
$15 Multiroom additional outlet
$10 IQ1 Monthly Fee

TOTAL $155

So, effectively you're getting to keep your IQ1 and only pay the $14.95/mth for it.

Yeah, that's why I asked for the breakdown. If with multiroom it's only $15 more then it looks very good.

Current Platinum is 105.95.

HD Platinium (includes HD iQ2) 130.90

So the HD section is worth $25

My Sport and another package is 55.90

My Sport and another package + HD Complete + iQ2 is 80.85

So the HD portion of that is $25

What's the incentive to go onto Platinum you get no discount and at the end of the year no free HD Box Office.

Calm down Hosko! We're all as pissed off as you - so much for the people saying this would be affordable...

Did anyone notice on the HD pricing page that in order to get the Full HD package for $14.95 (ie all 4/5 channels) you need to have My Sport and either My Escape., My World or My Playtime. So if you just had Get Started it would seem you'd need to pay $19.90 for the 4 HD channels - actually rereading it it seems you cant get BBC HD or Documentaries HD unless you have My Escape, My World and My Playtime..

This is NOT A GOOD DEAL at all...

And is any of the sport in HD even LIVE? Will all 4 FOX SPORTS AFL games per week be in HD, or only the replay of the two Channel 10 games? Will they replay the Channel 10 games in HD as well? What about when AFL and NRL is on at the same time? Which sport gets precedent on the HD channel?

They are quick with their pricing, but slow with their details. How about a TV guide listing (and removal of the installation charge)?

That is the pricing I was given when I placed my order and at the end he had to read through the script with my current and new pricing and then I had to agree to it. So to answer the previous questions I am currently on the Platinum package with iQ1 in the main veiwing area and a second standard box in the bedroom and I am paying 130.00 a month. Now with the Platinum HD package IQ2 and IQ1 box moved to the bedroom to replace the standard box I am on $145.00 per month. These are the exact figures he read out to me in his closing script/ agreement that I had to agree to to process the order. Yes there is also a one off $200 install fee that I agree is a bit much for plugging in a new box via HDMI but if like me you want it now then pay it, if not wait till they get rid of the install fee. Overall I am happy that for an extra $15 a month I get IQ2 HD+ platinum and now also have an IQ1 in the bedroom.

Edit: Oh and there was no mention of a new 24 month contract or any contract for that matter in his official speel at the end that I had to agree to, in saying that I've had Foxtel since it's release so even if there was it wouldn't bother me personally, though others mileage may vary.

Cheers Al

How about if I phone and ask them to drop the price for IQ to less than (or match) IQ2, or threaten disconnection.  It's ridiculous that you pay $4.95 more for something with half the functionality.

If they start offering new basic IQ subscriptions at a discount price, existing IQ customers will be doing this in droves.

Whats the point having a live ESPN when the time difference from here to the USA is so great? Prime time in the USA != prime time here.

Saying that they said in the blog that they receive the raw feed, compress it and pass it along. Worded like that it sounds like it may be a live feed.

I thought the IQ1 would only be $10/month.  If you look at the pricing sheet under "Step 3: Select your technology", it says the cost for the IQ1 is
"$10.00
per month per outlet Platinum and/or Multiroom Subscribers
or
$14.95
per month per outlet after installation"

The way I read this is that if you have an IQ1 already and they don't have to install it AND you have multiroom and/or Platinum it should only cost $10???
