Whereas the current promo for Iq1 is $5 install. Pffttt
I would sign up today, if they waived the install fee. Just courier out me the box.

They want people on the IQ2
If you have the IQ2 you may be more enticed to get HD channels not to mention if you have an IQ1 and realise you can save $5 per month by getting an IQ2 without realising it will cost you $200 to do so, foxtel wins

HD Platinium (includes HD iQ2) 130.90
So the HD section is worth $25
My Sport and another package is 55.90
My Sport and another package + HD Complete + iQ2 is 80.85
So the HD portion of that is $25
What's the incentive to go onto Platinum you get no discount and at the end of the year no free HD Box Office.

OK, lets say we take up this offer and enjoy the 5 channels in HD.
What about all the other standard channels?
I bet you they Picture Quality will be just as poor as it is now (especially for owners of large flat screens)
Maybe the quality will be worse, as more bandwidth will be required for the new HD channels. I did read on the HD blog that more bandwidth will be available in 2009.

* - Upgrade fee my a55!
For the record, I'm currently paying around $107 for two outlets (one iQ box) for all channels except movies (never watched them when we were on platinum).

Yep, IQ2 is the better deal forgetting about initial cost.
You are on the same package, multi room and IQ as me

Personally the channel costs are fine to me. As someone who paid upfront for an iQ the $399 bucks I'd prefer a better deal on the iQ2, perhaps $5 a month instead of the $10. However I can live with that. The $170 access/installation fee to upgrade leaves a taste of faecal matter in my mouth.

So do i
The monthly cost of the IQ2 is fine
The $200 fee will stop me from getting it though
I think the HD channels would be better priced at $5 for one and $10 for both
$20 for a complete HD package sounds alright

What I'm worried about though is losing the current discount we get on Foxtel for bundling on our Telstra bill (about $13/mth). This is an old discount deal that does not exist any more - now I think they just give you some free calls or something. I noticed when we added the IQ1 box, that each month we got charged the standard $10 per month with no discount - the discount only continued to apply to our old existing Foxtel Platinum + Multiroom charges.
If by getting IQ2 and Platinum HD we somehow reset our Foxtel package and lose the 10% Telstra discount, then that would be yet another $13/mth extra just to get IQ2/HD. So $25+$13 = $38/mth extra. That would NOT be a good result!

I doubt the $200 is meant to be for installation costs - seems to me like it's paying for some of the hardware in the IQ2 box, given that it's a 4 tuner HD PVR. How much do HD PVR's retail for currently?
Though having said that, knowing Foxtel, the box will remain their property at all times.
So yes, it is a rip, but probably not for the reasons most people here are crying foul over.
