New Foxtel Hd

Call me niaive but i was stunned to learn that pay tv doesn't already broadcast in hd?? Let me get this right ... they want us to "pay to watch" television at a quality that is sub standard to what is currently being offered on fta? Ahhhh ... ok ... makes sense to me. To charge anyone anything extra is a rort imho. It should just be offered as part of the service. A message to all existing subscribers saying something like "did you know you can now watch this station in HD??"
I mean for those who are lucky enough to have a HD TV can watch the HD equivalent provided by fta stations. The fta providers are not even charging their viewers to watch their stations in HD so why should Foxtel? I mean for goodness sake people are already paying good money to watch their stations.
So to the OP's question ... it is lousy value if you ask me ...
cheers

Question is, do we have a launch date yet? All I've heard is mid-08, which by my maths leaves about 7 or 8 weeks (assuming that Foxtel consider the end of June to be mid-08, though you really can't get much more mid than that
Knowing how good foxtel are, surely they are going to need several weeks to get IQ2's out to their existing IQ subsribers, let alone people who will upgrade to IQ2 to get HD (which is me), let alone new subscribers.
So assuming they tell us today the exact launch details and ask who will upgrade, figure 2 weeks to send all of that out and get it back, 2 weeks to get organised and get ready to send out, then 2 weeks to post them all out (unless they are going to be really slow and get technicians to install them, though why they would need to - who knows), that doesn't leave too much time to make the end of June deadline.
And considering existing customers haven't heard anything yet, I figure that the day we get the launch details is still a while off...
Any thoughts?

however apparently foxtel is holding a training session on HD for it staff tomorrow..
How to rort customers for moving house (HD version)
How to hype up the launch of HD, but then seriously disappoint
How to not answer the phones to hear the disappointment

* IQ2 will be released. It will cost about the same as IQ1 currently does, but with bigger storage and the capability to display HD if you decide to subscribe to the new HD service. If you get the IQ2, regardless of whether you decide to subscribe to HD or not, you can get access to FB movies in HD.
* IQ1 will now cost no additional $'s on top of your Foxtel subscription, effectively becoming the standard Foxtel box for all future signups.
* The new HD service will be launched offering the 4 HD channels mentioned, plus pass through the FTA's in HD. This will cost an additional amount per month on top of your current subscription - amount not yet revealed. You will have to get the IQ2 box in order to be able to subscribe to and receive HD.
Does this sum up the current thinking?

Foxtel HD set for June 2nd launch
Subscription Television
Knowfirst News understands June 2nd is the date Foxtel will commence rolling out its iQ2 and Foxtel HD to customers.
Foxtel is expected to announce the date within the next few days.
Rumours have the iQ2 at $10 rental per month and the suite of channels at $10 per month as well, but as of now, Knowfirst cannot confirm the price.
We’ll have more details as they come to hand.

If thats true, those $10 price wont last for too long - by the time December price rise comes around, they WILL go up
Also, if Foxtel had an RF into the iQ2 that had the ability to decode the FTA SD/HD signals (for us Satellite CANBERRA subs who get no commercial FTA through FOX) then I think I would get HD Foxtel, as I want a PVR, but I want to be able to record Foxtel as well
I suppose it would be something similar to the MyStar

Everyone keeps telling me it is going to be a great deal. I don't know whether that's true or they got brain washed in the info session on Tuesday - maybe Steve Jobs gave the presentation.
Take with a grain of salt as my confidence in some of the Foxtel rep's credibility is getting lower.

Mate at the end of the day, they aren't allowed to speak until the permission is given. Yourself and anyone else who asks for the information aren't important enough to lose their jobs should they be found out.
The deal is good and existing customers are being looked after and all playing fields are level.
As for the credibility, you've got all walks of life working on the kiosks and it's still a new concept some are still struggling with. Not everyone is a tech-head...
