I would like to know, how you disable the little red led lights that are on the screen saying "zone1" and "zone 2"?
Because, i disable it by opening the front cover, and press each zone number and the red lights go off, but the next time/day i turn the avr on, the red zone lights come on again! a bit annoying.
Any way to permanently disable the lights?

Sounds like a source problem, check the HTPC.

The lights shouldn't come on whenever you turn the thing on, I'd say that's a fault you should have looked at.
Question - do you ever use the other zones?

just read on the avs forum that there is a new firmware release for the 1800 and 3800 models, releases this month.
When i go to the AU yamaha site, i cannot find any FW for downloads, and it mentions to not download FW from USA version.
If i go to the USA yamaha site, you can download it but you have to join and fill out a form etc.
Anyone know how i can get the new FW?
Has anyone else done it, how?
cheers.

Hmmmm ... I would email Yamaha Australia with the details and ask them. My 3800 is running fine, so I could only guess at what a firmware update would mess with. For what it's worth I am happy to leave mine as is until Yam Aus decides we need it.
Were there any details from the AVS forum as to what it does?
edit: I have had a quick read and it would appear that this firmware handles the "DTSHDMA Bomb" & enables the pass through of Black below Black and white Below White .... so some purists here *may* want the latter.
I still think the best rout to go is to contact Yamaha Australia and ask them to provide it though.

Wonder why the size is different from the euro one to the denmark one!
Oh, and have you checked to see if by any chance the 5.1 DTSMA disc still shows 7.1 speakers on the front panel of the yammy when it should be showing 5.1?
cheers.

I have not spotted the 5.1 showing as 7.1 at all. I have setup the amp in 5.1 mode ( without rear prescence speakers) so the system knows it is 5.1.
When i do a test tone check it will only test the 5.1 speakers i have.
I don't know if that helps at all, but will check anyway. I have a number of DTSMA Blu ray's to try.

I was hoping that the 5.1 vs 7.1 lights on the amp would get fixed too, but wont know unless i try.
neuty,
It might only show up the problem with 7.1 setups! i havent tried setting mine at 5.1.
It still runs correctly, outputs to the correct channels and all, its just that the front amps panel shows 7.1 little speakers when in fact it should show 5.1 ( when you insert a 5.1 dtsma disc).
If you insert a 7.1 disc, it shows correctly with 7.1 little l.e.d's
Shows correctly with dolbytrue

I am using a PS3 for bluray, so this may be different to you. I get the correct led's when playing 5.1 or 7.1, and I am set up for 5.1.
Hope this helps.

Zipped file sizes are the same on UK and Danish site.
The issue re speaker display hasn't changed with the fw upgrade.
Note if downloading to desktop make sure file is renamed to RXV1800.zip. I had wasted a lot of time until I stumbled ax this issue.
The unzipped file is in wav format and you need to burn it to a cd as an audio file.
All instructions are available when you unzip the file.
a big thanks to neuty for his help.

Its using the newest FW but he modified the volume display, so when you press the volume up/down you get a BIG volume display alongside the small one ( the decibal reading ).
It also comes up with " hello " on start up instead of " main on ".
Ive downloaded the file and will be trying it out myself today.
Here is the thread where it starts from, post #6831
http://www.avsforum........42&page=228
Thought maybe some of you guys would be interested.
NOTE: this only works for rxv1800.

You will have to PM kriktsemaj99 and he will either give you the file via email or send you the link.
As normal, you select create audio cd and then transfer the wav file to your cd, and you must use optical cable from your cd/dvd.
It comes with a pdf file with instructions on how to install the FW.
Once installed, i turned it off/then on again and voila!!! main screen said "HELLO"
Turning the volume now displays a much bigger number nect to the volume display, its like twice the size! and i can now see the volume number from where im sittinig without squinting hehe, awesome.
I had to recalibrate my settings again ( speaker size/calibrate volume etc) as you do with any new FW upgrade.
About to go watch a movie now, but im happy with the volume size now, and a nice touch to the "hello" on turn on.
Ive read on the avs forum and seen a few aussie's try it with success.
cheers

I would love to see the display show your source instead of the surround mode you use. I bet it can and i've not read the instructions proper
Still a very happy man

Is this the same as the "pop" that has been mentioned in the past which was fixed by a firmware update?
And apologies if this has been asked before but re firmware update:
1. Will the local Yamaha service agent do the firmware update for free?
2. Are our machines the same as the UK ones?
2. I can't seem to find any instructions on how to update the firmware myself - I've downloaded the file via the European Yamaha Service site, but didn't see any instructions on what I'm meant to do with the firmware along the way.
cheers.

PS3 won't have the DTS BOMB issue as it is outputting LPCM for HD audio, but the BD35 will if you are bitstreaming to your 1800. You will be fine using the firmware as i'm pretty sure others have on here. con219 and mazman have upgraded with the UK firmware i'm sure.
The instructions are in the zip file you download. Tip from con219, if you save to your desktop, remember to save the file as a ZIP.

Mine only made the pop during DTSMA blu-ray's ,but i would recommend if you are concerned that you take it to an authorised repairer to have it fixed.I took mine in they had it for 5 days and told me that they put 3 upgrades on it and the last required a special wiring harness from yamaha to perform. It didn't cost anything and the amp hasn't missed a beat since, large pop completely gone.
hope this helps
