Finally got the chance to demo the D8000 with blu-ray source. I was hoping D8000's motion smooth feature will automatically turn on under 24hz mode so the judder issue will be gone. The sales guy managed to find the Top gun blu-ray with the rolling credit in the end. Not 100% sure the replay mode at the time but the screen showed 24p so I assume it is the 24hz mode. Guess what, the credit still has obvious judder. A 100HZ samsung D6400 LED next to it playing same source, smooth enough.
Am I the only person noticing this? probably not. Professional reviews are mixed. The whathifi one did mention its motion handling issue.

The Samsung needs "Cinema Smooth" mode enabled for 24Hz source, by default I think it uses 60Hz and 3:2 pull down for display regardless of input which results in judder with 24fps source.

Cinema Smooth is not motion interpolation, its simply a 96 or 120Hz mode that is compatible with 24 fps for judder free playback without the soap opera video look as it retains the normal low frame rate jitter of film.

There should be a motion interpolation function as well, there was on last years D7000.  It was very smooth and made film look like video for those that like that sort of thing.

Can't stand it myself. Seen motion interpolation on my Panasonic, a Sharp and Samsung at work, and a mates' LG and they all look terrible. The action/movement is just so unnatural!

Hey guys, would anyone be interested in helping me out with an idea I am trying to get off the ground in relation to TV prices.

I'm currently building a mobile APP based around this exact topic, seeking out the best price via negotiation on items like TVs. I've used this threat multiple times myself and wanted to make it easy for people to share a price via their mobile device.

I'm trying to gather enough research to prove my idea is worth spending all the time on it, so I have organised with some sales people at JB HiFi Bondi Junction (Sydney) to take part in my Proof of concept research.

If anyone is interested, they are willing to give some good starting prices on certain models of TVs for your own negotiations. I'm waiting on confirmation but if anyone has any suggestions as to what models to start out with I'd be very greatful.

I should clarify I'm not trying to scam anyone or make any money from this, simply I am trying to see if my idea is worth continuing. I've been a member of the forums for a long time so I don't want to muddy the waters and look like a first time poster trying to pull a quick one.

I'd love some people to get on board with suggestions and take part, but if you'd rather not, that's fine as well.

I figured rather than try and do it all myself I'd put the call out for some help.

Well, they're probably gone anyway but, I copied and pasted it from his Facebook thread, it definitely said THP65VT30.

I went back to the Facebook thread and they must have realised the mistake and edited it. It now reads ST but as I said, I cut and pasted it originally and it was definitely VT.

It's a shame, because even though LCD tech has shown a lot of improvement, plasma displays have inherent advantages, primarily because the tech doesn't require a backlight — unlike LCDs, which twist crystals in individual pixels to affect the light passing through, plasma pixels illuminate themselves. Before Pioneer stopped making plasma TVs, it had demonstrated models with theoretically infinite contrast and razor-thin designs, showing off the benefits of a plasma display.

Large affordable OLED TV's with all the bugs ironed out are likely some years off yet.
