Is it possible to get NTSC out of the SCART RGB on the Teac DV-B400 STB?
I want to connect it to my BA Falcon Audio Screen.

Thanks
Brett

I wouldn't think so as DVB-T is a PAL Standard.

The only way you could get NTSC out, is via a convertor that converts the source video to NTSC from PAL.

Cashie,
The SCART connector is designed to deliver, RGB, PAL & SVHS (PAL)
The problem you may have is that on all outputs are 625 lines/frame and 25 frame/s. The term PAL(NTSC) strictly refers to the way colour is combined with the monochrome luminance signal. That problem is eliminate by useing
R G B.

So the frame rate will probably be your biggest problem.
You will have the above problem with all STBs ujsed in Australia.

So if it is for a display, then try it using the RGB input.

I know someone who has successfully used a eMtech em-1150 to connect to this screen.
This STB is capable of "NTSC" output on the SCART RGB.
Only limitation is that it is 240V only. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

You can certainly also make the Toppy NTSC out too (it is an option in the menu).

Brett,

This software is experimental and designed specifically to connect the DVB400 to the Ford BA Falcon fitted with the colour screen.

We have tested the software on a BA XR6T screen and its working.

Sorry, but TEAC cannot supply the connection details to the Falcon ICC unit on this forum. This can be found elsewhere (maybe on various Ford forums.)

Decoding DVB-T COFDM signals in a vehicle will not give perfect results (it is generally ok whilst stationary). Also making an antenna system suited for VHF3 and UHF may also be a challenge.

Here are the URL links for the DVB400.

http://stb.teac.com.au/pages/files/dvb400-ntsc.bin
http://stb.teac.com.au/pages/files/loader.exe

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This software forces NTSC output and has NO selection to go back to PAL. Another software binary must be loaded to go back to PAL format.

This software is not available within our service departments and should be loaded by users using a null modem serial cable. Software is available to bring the unit back to PAL if required.

KNOWN ISSUES:
(1) In 4:3 full-screen mode, the picture is corrupted with additional graphics. This shouldn't matter as 16:9 widescreen mode will be selected anyway.
(2) The screen image needs to be shifted up. This can be done in the screen output menu.
(3) If you skip unwanted channels, disconnecting the power will loose the settings.

TEAC.

TEAC,

You are a star!!!!!!

I have been playing with the Dig TV in BA. Infact I wrote the in car DTV tute in the XR6T forum (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I will upload to my DVB400 tonight and replace the eMtech, which is currently running off an inverter.

You are going to make a lot of BA Falcon owner very happy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks Again.

Alex

TEACSTB,

One question, seeing that your coders have played with the DVB400 for the BA, is there anyway of switching one of the RCA's to Video In??? That is, is it possible to get PAL video sent to the DVB400 (e.g. DVD player) and have this output NTSC RGB from the SCART??

Probably wishfull thinking ???

Thanks

Alex

TEACSTB,

Some feedback from you re DVB400 in the BA Falcon

-PQ is as good as the eMtech.

-Sensitivity is not as good (is there any way to boost this in firmware?)

-Audio sync is out. This is noticiable with lip sync which is slightly out.

Thanks Again..

Alexg,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we've also just noticed a slight lipsync which is most noticeable on Nine Digital.

It's not possible to make a video IN to do a PAL to NTSC conversion.

The tuner performance can be optimised depending upon its application however this has not been done.

Question:
Where did you find the right shape plug to fit the ICC unit? We ended up removing the centre console and hard wiring another plug.

------------------

To go back to normal PAL version use this binary.

http://stb.teac.com.au/pages/files/dvb400-v102.bin
** This is the same as existing software just stores the last audio setting. It's not an offical release as we're looking at other improvements still....

TEACSTB,

Yes, Ch9 is where i have noticed it too...

I ended up using insulated speaker terminals and fitted these to the ICC connector, but apparently a connector can be sourced from an old EL falcon dash. This requres you to convince a wrecker to let you dismantle a dash and get to the antenna height switch part of the loom.

What can be done about the sesnsitivity? I am more than happy to trial any additional fimware.

Thanks

Alex

A great result TEAC, thanks.
I will be loading this up ASAP.

Has anyone had any luck getting the remote control infrared into the Ford ICC, is it just a matter of cutting out the old one and linking it to the Ford one?

Brett,

We'll be trying a remote mod over the weekend. If it doesn't cause any problems, we'll give the details here next week.

TEACSTB,

I thought I would have a go at the IR as well. I lifted Jumper 2 on the front PCB assembly and directly wired the link to the BA ICC I.R. pin. This seems to work well.
Are you trying something more elaborate?

Any luck on the lipsync and possibly squeezing a bit more sensitivity out of the box?

Is it true that the DV-B400 has been discontinued?
If so that is really bad news to anyone wanting a 12V STB for their car.

I eventually installed my DVB400 STB. Many thanks to TEAC for supplying a great product with the excellant software support!
I am very pleased with the result.
Looks excellent, people are gobsmacked when they see it.
The only issue is a decent antenna, I am currently using a set of rabbit ears on the parcel shelf. I am thinking about getting a TV Antenna that sticks on the back window similar to a mabile phone antenna, does anyone know where I can find one of these?

Has anyone perhaps made a tutorial on how to go about all this ? If not please consider doing so (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) to help out us electronically challenged people .

Alexg has made an excellent tutorial that you will find here.
Of course, it is recommended that only someone electronically competent attempts this mod as a new ICC is very costly.
