It has Reon scaller it in. People are saying that at US$1000 RRP its expensive and that you can get a bluray and a HD DVD player for less. Whic is true if your talking about an A2 and a Sony 300. But those players are speced much lower then the UP-5000, its closer to a XA2 and a Samsung 2400 and to buy both those would set you back around US$1400.
If Samsung don't release it here I'm going to import it from a Region B bluray country, only problem with that is it won't be Region 4 for SD DVD (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

it says the upscaler is a HQV but is it the reon as per the xe1 andi wonder if hqv do any other upscalers other than the Reon SAMSUNG’S DUAL-FORMAT HD PLAYER AND THIRD GENERATION BLU-RAY PLAYER TO FEATURE SILICON OPTIX HQV PROCESSING San Jose, CA—(August 15, 2007)—Silicon Optix, the leader in advanced video processors, announced today that the Reon-VX HQV video processor will be featured in Samsung’s third-generation Blu-ray player, the BD-P2400 (MSRP: $649, October 2007), as well as the company’s first dual-format HD player, the BD-UP5000 (MSRP: $1,049, Q4 2007). “Samsung selected HQV technology for both the BD-UP5000 and BD-P2400 because of its reference-class video processing and the overwhelming response we received from the BD-P1200,” said Reid Sullivan, Samsung’s VP of Marketing for the Audio Video Products Group. The HQV technology in Samsung’s BD-UP5000 and BD-P2400 provides true 1080i-to-1080p HD deinterlacing, delivering the sharpest, most detailed HD images possible by employing per-pixel, motion- adaptive algorithms and a sophisticated multidirectional diagonal filter that ensures video free from jagged edges. The powerful HQV processing engine also provides per-pixel, motion-adaptive noise reduction, detail enhancement, and advanced scaling, to deliver premium-quality upconversion of standard-definition material. “We are thrilled with Samsung’s decision to use HQV in its third-generation player as well as their first Duo high-definition player. HQV processing ensures the highest-quality playback of HD discs, and also upconverts existing DVD libraries to near-HD quality,” said Jim Mannos, President and CEO of Silicon Optix. The BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player is Samsung’s first dual-format high-definition (HD) optical disc player. This player is positioned as the company’s flagship in its line of high definition players. The BD-UP5000 supports both Blu-ray and HD DVD formats as well as their respective interactive technologies, BD-Java and HDi. Both the BD-UP5000 and the BD-P2400 include backward compatibility with standard DVD and CD formats (including DVD-ROM, DVD-+/R, DVD-+/RW, CD, CD-R and CD-RW). Playback of multimedia content in a variety of different formats is quick and easy at 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions. Samsung‘s new HQV-enabled players offer full compatibility with 1080p/24fps (frames per second) movie playback. Because most films are shot at 24fps, these players will be able to play back movies in their native format, significantly reducing unwanted artifacts. Setting the players’ Movie Frame (24fps) feature to On allows the consumer to adjust the HDMI 1.3 output to 24fps for a crisp, theater-like experience. These players will also support 60fps for enhanced compatibility with many of today’s HDTVs. Beyond standard Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS audio playback, both the BD-UP5000 and BD-P2400 work with other formats, including DTS HD and lossless Dolby TrueHD, for a variety of clear, full-bodied sound options. When coupled with its HDMI 1.3 connections, consumers can enjoy the purest sound quality available today. The HDMI 1.3 connection also offers HDMI CEC (Anynet+) technology, allowing consumers to use a single remote control to operate the BD player, TV, and other A/V products from Samsung. Additionally, the BD-UP5000 and BD-P2400 are able to upconvert standard DVDs to full HD 1080p resolution via the HDMI connection, bringing consumers’ DVD movie collections into the next generation. Link This thing is looking awesome on paper. |

The big question for people that run a CIH setup is "will it have the ezview" option like other Samsung SD players??? Well worth importing it if it does!

Isn't it interesting the turn of events over the last year where it began with HD DVD verses BR to the death of one only to have Samsung now to bugger up 'the War' and all the advertising costs and subsidies of both camps.
A big thumbs up for Samsung if they can make a good player out of it, though I am not a Samsung advocate, I hope they can at least bridge the gap with it. C.M |

nix that idea. No mention of profile 1.1 compatability. I'm not buying a device that won't access all the features on the discs they are charging a premium for.
Hope it is 1.1. It says BDJ and ethernet (of course the later is a HD-DVD requirement). |

That was me Mo (thanks Kam for remembering), they wouldn't say whether or not it would come out here eventually but were adamant it wouldn't be here this year.
