For a little while in the wee hours of this morning, ABC2 broadcast this test pattern http://www.evandavis...poraryClose.jpg

It was gone at about 4:05am.

As well as the screen shot, I also have a .rec file (for Toppys) of about a minute which I can upload if anyone is interested.

bloody fantastic !

In the good old days ,well only about  20 years ago in New Zealand,us field techs would rejoice in the morning before 11.00am as TV2 would put on the philips test pattern  and we could adjust  pal delayline curcuitry without need of a pattern generator .
Although it was amazing how many techs were unaware of the value of this .

Guess its not so importantant these digital days.

Test pattern wasn't quite this wide then !!!!

Takes me back as well.

Using a PM 5544 to set up early versions of the Philips K9 chassis in 1973 at the Philips Hendon (SA) factory while an apprentice Radio Tradesman!

Where did all our electronics expertise and manufacturing industry go  :(

I've still got that closing animation on vhs somewhere which I recorded in 1978 when I bought my new JVC VHS recorder for $1200. That was 1978 dollars which must be about $5000 now. Would we pay for a vhs like that now?
Makes you realise how much cheaper it has become to record and process TV.

Col I bought my very first recorder around that time it was not Beta or VHS but a Philips wish I can remember the model!! the cassette was doubled layer tape sitting on top of each other it passed down at a 45deg angle to the bottom cassette caused heaps of problems but the video quality was top notch

Wouldn't you only need a few seconds of it and just press the pause button.

I found an old tape of my parents with that exact animation followed by the National Anthem, black, test pattern, another test pattern and then fuzz... It'll be up at this address for a few days in RealVideo if you want to watch it: :P

It's 3:40 into the video.

Now that sort of thing didn't happen in those days!

Maybe we could set up a new forum topic covering our TV history?

My fist vhs recorder was in the start of 1988. Just intime to record (world expo 88 brisbane)  the big event that change brisbane forever its all on tapes.

After that  i see that channel 0 queensland change its logo to the new channel (ten) in 1989 for brisbane. I can just remember that.

Even i remember back in around 1985 that there was a new tv channel for brisbane or there for it was going on for about a year?  just notice that radio 4eb the international voice languge in brisbane announce there is a new channel call (SBS tv) and was telling the listerners how to tune in to SBS tv. We tune it in and it was new and i remember it there was a greece movie going on. It was around 2ish pm :) i just remember all this exactly how it was. This brings me lots of flash back memories indeed.  Now days when i buy something new for the first time i make a diary by recording the equipment i just brought with the year time and such :) this will always be my diary to the things ive brought for the first time such as a plasma tv screen.
