Top posted story.  Apparently details will be announced at CEDIA in the US.  Wonder what they will add.   Good to see the prices still coming down (Especially on the Flagship one).

wow good find spero. cedia next month to unearth all sorts of goodies by the looks ! very exciting. wonder what these new models bring apart from the lower price. And wow the prices are quite so amazingly low.

one thing for sure full kudos for tosh man, third gen already when we are yet to see even 2nd gen blu-ray from any maker in this country.

man if tosh is loosing this supposed 'war' it isnt from the want of trying !

now if they can pull off region free on dvd as well and hopefully support for all the audio formats then I will sorely tempted my self on one of these !  :)

sp all that said my XA1 is still doing a mighty fine job and still supported by tosh with updates and the like ...so any new player would have to be a good step up from it for me to consider an upgrade !

Here's hoping for DTS HD Master decoding onboard.  If so then I am buying an A35 straight away.

Didn't HJ try and say HD DVD would not be able to do deep color?  Someone better tell Toshiba

yes it is, but if that is the only lossless audio option on a disc (eg Brotherhood of the Wolf) then I need it in a player.  I would prefer they not use it at all or at least have a TrueHD track as well, but if it is the only option....

Zorg, I think 10800/24 is a given at this stage, but obviously seeing it in the specs would help.

LOL, just stiring mate, and agree if its the only option then we do need it.

yep DTS HD MA and 7.1 analogue outs and it will be a winner for sure and i won't bother upgrading my processor
as for 1080p/24fps you would think they would include it considering its a firmware upgrade on the xe1

At this point in time there is a thread on AVS that has 118 posts, and all it is is a "wishlist" for members. Virtually no info on what features the three 3rd gen players will have. Toshiba-US themselves have released nothing.
When I saw this thread I thought I'd hold off on my impending purchase of an XE-1. Then I contacted Toshiba sales and they had no idea what I was talking about. Hey, there's even been a delay in the release of the EP-10. She quite rightly pointed out that Toshiba-Aus and Toshiba-USA are two independent entities ( with the same parent, obviously).
We'll be lucky to see these 3rd gen players here before early next year.
So it's back to haggling for a good price on the XE-1 for me.

True, but I don't mind importing.  They are region free after all.

Probably the only thing that would sway me to wait would be if the 3rd Gen player(s) retained the Reon chip and they made SD-DVD region-free. Want the local product so I can upscale what I've already got . Can't afford to replace all my favs with new HD-DVD versions.

For HD only unfortunately so this rules them out for me as I have a large collection of dvd's I would like to continue to play without having a bunch of players in my rack..... which leads me to my question... how much do you guys think these will cost over here?.... Under or over $1k?

Umm, echo.
For what it's worth, I reckon the RRP will be : A35=$1299, A30=$999 and A3 =$699. And by this time next year that will be $950/ $700 /$500.
Unless, the HD marketing really takes off, the stores are just not selling enough of these products to warrant any major discounting. Man, on that AVS thread someone mentioned there are something like 50million HD TV's operating in the US. That's why everything is so cheap over there.

Yes this is what I'm worried about. The local Toshie offerings are not so much a bargain are they bugger it... But the purchase price vs manufacturing price is not so easy to understand or accept. Irrespective of the purchasers it would only be costing xxx amount to build.

Still waiting on the response to my post the other day regarding pricing of players.  He doesn't do common sense or facts.

Well I'm feeling slightly less flu-ridden, so I thought I'd go back and search through some of HJs post history:

Item1

Quote

Deep Colour will never be a part of current BR of HD-DVD, it requires too much bandwith and space. However a component of Deep Colour, xvYCC can and will be implimented at least in BR. As you know HD colour gamut(Chromacity) has 6x the colour gamut of the NTSC one, this is one of the reasons that an HD image looks better on a SD display, the colour is "richer".

Like wise xvYCC will increase the HD colour pallet by 1.8x, this will not only take up more storage space but bandwidth as well. I recall a time that TI and many others said 1080 was of no value and 720 was all that was required. Hint.......there are a few billion dollars worth of non xvYCC devices to move yet. How much of a difference will xvYCC make?, we will all see shortly.

Actually, I think Item 1 is all I really needed.

Time to go and watch some of the new HD movies that turned up today.
