Hi all.  Now that I have managed to secure a P-700, modified under the watchful eye of the Tassie Devil, I was thinking of laying in some spare parts.  I plan on having this unit for a while and was thinking I ought to get a spare laser.  Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on one?  I have emailed TEAC, but based on recent posts I don't hold out much hope there.  Soundlabs can't assist.  Any ideas?

Regards,

Allan

congrats allan on the purchase ! a lovely thing !

your best bet would be to contact nick at audiophile who I know services them also in that other link norpus posted details of another person who services. I dotn think you'll have any trouble getting a spare laser for it to be honest. they are units as far as I know that they do service. ps while yoru at it can you find out if they have another maybe I should get one for myself as a spare as well ! hehe

Interestingly a little birdie just explained to me that CEC copied the digital out of the P700 it was so good - imitation is a form of praise :)
Well doen bigkid. That P500 went for $510 tonite on ebay - only $10 more than my range. Evidently I got the cheapest deal, as some have gone for ~$800 I was told on ebay in recent history. The luck of the draw on ebay

Thanks norpus, will have to wait until I get home from work - our security won't allow access to that page.  I already have a number of people to try, Nick at audiophile, Zoran at ZM and Kimil electronics, all scoured from various threads here.

I can recommend Kimil Electronics in Sydney. They replaced the laser in my Esoteric P02 about 12 months ago.

al, the Sony KSS-151A laser assembly is $198.35 + delivery from WES Electronics, 138 Liverpool Road Ashfield, 02/97979866.  Bit pricy but the genuine article and a long life ahead of it.  WES seems to be the supplier to many repairers including audiophile.

That seems a good price - may I assume same laser as in the P500 too ?
It appears to be used in many others including Wadia

Gee..not sure norpus, never could find a copy of the P-500 manual.  Makes sense though.

Pricing looks a little better in europe, not sure about postage:

Mine arrived today also.  Thanks for the offer Rod but decided not to take you up on it as it had been ordered and paid for - seemed a little too difficult to sort out.  Thanks again.  a

By the way, I understand that there is some sort of laser test disc available, can anyone shed any light on this - apparently it has some markings on it that are progressively more difficult for a laser to 'read', the better the laser's condiction the more tracks it can read.

a

edit:  never mind, found it here: http://www.mcmconnec...5E2461693C40E03

Apparently I also need an oscilloscope.  Might visit soundlabs instead.
