Not at all. But it is very limited in the type of music you can get....

I have a universal that does SACD, but still 99% of what i buy is plain old CD, and i reckon i've just about already bought everything i'd ever like on SACD(well not really, but i don't see too much that i'm into).

Hi Psycho,For my tastes I actually prefer SACD in 2 channel only and would prefer a quality 2 channel player.IMO these yeild the nicest results.

This is only judging by what I've heard,I don't actually own one.

Just got put onto Stockfish Records - Closer to the music from Alebonau.

What a great album. It has a collection of acoustic numbers from the likes of Sara K, Mike Silver and Chris Jones.  These are all a mix but very much country/folk/jazz/blues types of tracks. Not much help there I know but it's a compliation :)

Some great tracks are:
1 and 2 by Allan Taylor, great bass, good songs, superb recordings.
5 called "Stop those Bells" is by Sara K and Chris Jones which is a live recording and a great song.
7 called "No Sanctuary Here" is by Chris Jones which contains some great African backing vocals which go very low.

Great album all around IMO well worth trying thanks for the heads up Al.
(PS: It's sacd too).

Decided to dust off a few of my Ben Harper CD's tonight.

Mo_Jo

I'll throw in my vote for Ben Harper as well. Great to listen and relax too. ^_^

YELLO - Baby, was the album played when I first heard the B&W 801's @ Pirimai HiFi many many years ago and I still listen to it as my reference/showoff cd on my system. I just love the drums in track 3 :jungle bill, and the sound stage in track 7 : drive/driven, awsome! Track 9 : blender, will give your bass drivers a serious workout. Not everyone's taste, some tracks are quite weird, but the sound is excellent and crisp, with some sound effect hooks flying out left and right of the sound stage. Very exciting and lively stuff.

My listening depends on my mood at the time. So far this week;

For chilling out : Tommy Emmanuel, Dido, Jewel, Enigma, and general chillout music, Cafe del Mar, ect (chillout session 7, my fav).

For an ear bashing : Linkin Park, G 'n' R, Genesis, Evanescence, Foo's, Placebo, Pumkins and Muse.

For some fast paced kitchen action : Most Ministry of Sound stuff, Skitzmix, Maxmix and other dance/trance stuff my apprentices got me hooked into.

Definitely no bluegrass here! Though I do have some cultured stuff somewhere :) .

chef.

Hey All,

Picked up Regina Spector's debut album "begin to hope" ($19 JBHiFi) and i must say it is a delightful listen. Those that listen to the J's probably know about her, but for those who don't she is a classically trained russian/american with some very interesting music. Also the production and sound quality is something to admire also, great imagery and definement on most tracks, even my system resolves them nicely!!!

On a fairly different note i picked up the beastie boys latest creation "The mix-up"($21 JbHiFi) which is a entirly instrumental cd which defines the word "funk". Be warned though, people may think you are watching some old 70's porn! It is a great album if you like things funky.

I haven't got into him in a big way yet, but 'Power of the Gospel' on Live on Mars sends shivers up my spine.

What you need is either a Squeezebox, or Sonos. Then you set it to random play and it plays through your ripped collection, takes the hassle out of deciding. Then when you hear something that takes your fancy, you either just play that album via the unit or grab the CD and pop it into your CD player. Otherwise just sit back and enjoy…

Tried that recently and after twenty minutes or so I noticed that the background music had been the same - one of the random songs picked up was a one hour long relaxation tune of jungle sounds

An oldy but a goody; Merry Christmas Mr Lawerence.

I always put this on when I have tinkered with the system, some great Japanese music by Ryuichi Sakamoto including some tweeter work out material. One track "Before The War" does my head in as the background sound just reverberates inside your skull.

Picked this  up on a whim the other day. It's a collection of Dino's classics remixed into duets with people like  Kevin Spacey, Joss Stone, Robbie Williams Etc. Also contains a few comic quips by Dean Martin placed in between tracks. King of the Road featuring Kevin Spacey was a highlight I thought.
Great for chilling out with a Scotch & Soda. :D
