Aw c'mon vjp...I can't honestly see a HT/2 Channel split causing the demise of one or the other...there are just too many people interested in one or the other or both for either one to 'die'.

May I suggest with the example you have given above is a little different.
Naturally their is now much more interest in HD than SD (displays or stbs)compared with say 2 years ago when it was the opposite (there was little HD media to get excited about - I even gave away my hd stb!!) so that is the main reason why the SD forums are not as popular IMO
I'd say almost every active poster interested currently in posting in the dtv HT section about 2ch also already had an HT interest. I do not think that will go away (we have too much invested also in HT). Some of us do like to combine our HT and 2ch systems (for reasons of cost and available room) , hence why we came to gthe hT forum in the first place.
What you might find with a dedicated 2ch focus in a seperate uncluttered space, there may be some more new members attracted who may then crossover and contribute valuably to the HT side - which would be great for all

This is true IMO.
Unfortunately with the latest gadgets and toys coming on the scene people will abandon a lower spec format eventually.eg SD vs HD.
Not so for 2 channel.
But in this case 2 channel for some unknown reason persists and clings to life.
Maybe it'll be the only one to survive in the battle of the fittest.
It seems to rely the least on the on new codecs and formats.

Just the other day I was requested to connect a turntable for guy who has quite a nice 5.1 lounge system. He has a stack of vinyl and obviously loves 2ch. I wonder if I can convince him to also include SACD and DVD-A when he upgrades his DVD player soon?

Don't mind the fact that many of us happen to like this forum, have made online "friends", and happen to feel "at home" here.
I'm actually a member of another(2ch) forum, but with the music i like, and the gear i own, don't really feel like i fit in..... i'd rather be here, and be able to talk about my TV, HTPC, my HT gear aswell as 2ch stuff. Don't see why anyone would object to 2ch/music getting it's own subforum

It's not because of wanting to be separatist but an area where people could come together on this forum hopefully without having to deal with the HT side of things continually.Even though for many people there are so many crossover points within the whole DTV forum, but there are areas where peoples enthusiasm is greater. This way the two channel boffins can click directly on their own area and not trawl through say multi channel or HT posts.
An area like this that is accessible to anyone with a genuine querey or just for the lurkers to peruse if there is of anything of interest for them would be a great bonus.
It wouls also be a great point of reference for other regulars if they wished to visit.
Agreed. I did vote for the split and I will still look in 2Ch sub- forum if it is created. The more focussed a sub forum can be the better.

Isn't this the point the admin realises the overwhelming support for the idea, and comes in to make the changes

i have asked in the suggestions section about this and also linked back to this poll.
So no doubt the admins will see it and decide on the best course of action.
Personaly i hope it does happen, but i know the admins will have the final say.
I will continue posting in the HT section and helping people in there and also be heavily involved in the 2 channel section as that is the most important thing to me.
Sure there are a couple of other forums out there for purely 2 channel but i started in here from when i was looking at purchasing my first ever setup and have been here ever since.
