OT a tad.. But WRT Indians, I love their food .. esp these guys in Perth- Anghiti... AFAIK no Indian food in Singapore can match this...
I love Indian Food, too. Been to Anghiti once; food's really good but I wouldn't say it's the best Indian Food I've had in Perth, but fairly close, though.

We are spoilt for good Indian Food in Perth; there are at least 5 I would say are fantastic.

Heaps, mate.

In Vic Park, there are a couple of good ones. The one I really like on Albany Highway in Vic Park is called Jewel of the Park.

In Innaloo, there's one which does a smorgasboard/buffet; just can't think of the name! It's on the same side of Scarborough Beach Road as the Commonwealth Bank but just after the set of lights, on the way to Scarborough Beach.

In South Perth, there's one close to Coco's. It's on the upper level (names have left me today, so I apologise!).

Heh heh.. We seem to have the same tastes in Indian food :P Been to all 3 of them too.. I guess my preference is still Anghiti as it's dishes have very complex flavours and multiple layers ... But unfortunately my Singaporean (still on topic? :P) mates don't like Anghiiti at all.. :(  Oh well....

My parents are coming to Perth in Sept, am thinking of getting them to get something over, but unfortunately the Mrs ain't that happy with the idea.... :( Feels like an opportunity wasted.

What about Chutney Mary in Subiaco and The Cinnamon Club in Leederville?

I've got an Entertainment Book, and am thinking of trying out all the Indian restaurants in the book.  :D

Never heard of them.. Guess me and my wife seldom eat out, and the places we like has a good habit of closing down (e.g. Gratzi, changed owners; the chinese food shops in Waneroo Markets that reminded me so much of Singapore/Malaysian fare, gone. There's at least 2 others I can't remember) ...

I am sure you will find some reason why food in your little corner of the universe is relevant to a thread that covers buying Electronic Items from Overseas, but am struggling to find any connection whatsoever...

I am also confident that you will find some part of this universe to post your Food and Non Overseas discussions. Anywhere but here mates....

Well, to put it back on topic,  there seem to a free online magazine for A/V from Singapore (I think) #12..
Change the link number to get earlier issues..

Magazines containing addresses to some hifi shops (in places I didn't even realise, e.g. Kakhi Bukit, Yishun etc), and what kind of gear, etc...

Good reading for a Friday? :P

Can anyone recommend a good retailer in HK or Singapore that sells Yamaha AVR's? I've been looking, but can't find anyone who can compete with Australian prices on a V667. (I'm looking for places I can contact from here in Aus, as I'm not going to be in HK or Sg any time soon!)

Cheers,

P

Yamaha AVRs are not as aggressively priced in SG / HKG.

we're going to be in Singapore in a few months and Adelphi is not far from our hotel so will check it out.

any recommendations for a really good & value for $$$ for any pre-amp or integrated 2 chanel with HT by pass? like Marantz, MF ... etc

no problems with check-in baggage so if it is worth it, will buy & bring back

thx

I have heard some early news that the AE 5000/7000 will be sold for under Aus$ 3k in Singapore. NO it's not KEC so shipping isn't possible for now.

Will post more when I get more news from the vendor. But even a trip there to Adelphi Singapore, will still be cheaper than Aussie price, IMO.

Recently I went around the world on a jaunt..

In USA I first went
For a Velodyne only 150 usd I spent
At a shop they call Magnolia
I had to with a price that was Whoa!

And I decided to stop by into Adelphi which is one of my fav haunts
Since I was upgrading to an 11.2
I dropped into Precision Audio for a pair of MA Radius or two

Then with some silver still in my pocket I made the fatal mistake

I took the lift up to KEC
And asked Clarence what he had for me
He grinned mightily and said, plenty plenty
He knew I had the B/W 805s
And he had a BNIB HTM4s
And another BNIB Velodyne 1000R subwoofer
So the next thing you know I was left with less than a fiver

Happy nonetheless
Before I left he wished me all the best
But then fished out an AQ HDMI and subwoofer cable
Which he professed would go nicely in the Nautilus based stable

I had my card and out it came on its own
Then I penniless bewildered I left for home

Wondering how I  budgeted a 1000 for my surrounds
Only to spend close to 2500 pounds! ( < ---- had to make that rhyme...)

And that's not the end
Since the Denon 4311 he will send....

So away from Adelphi in Singapore you should stay...
Or heavy is the price you will pay...

Pete, sounds like quite an expensive outing :)

If you don't mind me asking, after shipping, duty, GST, etc, how much will you have paid for the 4311?

It cost S$2350 to buy. Freight usually cost less than 200 for an amp alone? You can see the prices on the 4311 thread.

Just did a chill / shopping trip to Shenzhen and Hong Kong...
The Ascott apartments are nice, albeit a touch more costly and secluded than the average hotel, but there is a ferry to HK, minutes away and it takes only an hour for a 140 RMB trip (return costs).

Some notes on going to HKG from China.

There are many entry points. Some have the China and HKG customs one after another, so you clear them almost simultaneously.
Others need you to re-board the bus again. The bus ride is usually around an hour, and there are many options, and usually cost <$50 RMB or HKG per trip.
The ferry costs $110 but goes directly into the Sheung Wan jetty, and you can walk to the Sheung Wan Station.

Usually the customs is shorter with the ferry.

Some buses will go round the clock.

As for buying in China, those local brands are cheap, but international brands are not. In HKG, only selected items are cheaper than SG, and you need to know the prices. The displayed prices are often higher than SG.

BR discs which are from HKG are cheap, but imports are not.
For Discs, go to:
Prosperity building with many shops incl basement (corner of Sai Yeung Choi St south and Nelson st), HK records @ Gateway Shopping centre, TST; Win Win shop, 49, Tung Choi St, Mongkok.
get out of Mongkok MTR station E2 exit and walk (Blue arrow) when you reach Properity Building( End of red arrow, start of blue arrow) , there is a stairway to the basement (follow blue arrow)..here in the basement there are several Blu-Ray and CD shops...some hardware, haedphones and audio tweaks as well..

Take the other exit (end of the blue arrow trail) walk up and get to the street level again, walk along the red arrow.  There you will find another 4 shops very close to each other (Beat Record, Win Win).

As for hi fi, if you buy local brands, there is a lot of value in cables, HDMI, power or otherwise.
In Shenzhen, go to 赛格电子市场, shopping belt call Hua Qiang Bei (Chinese: 华强北)

Nothing that I am aware of. KEC had a warehouse sale recently, to clear old stock, but if you know what price to pay for items, you will still get good deals in SG and HKG. Just be armed with some figures, which you can get from previous posts here.

Stop by Adelphi as only 200m from hotel. Still undecided on either Onkyo 5509 or Denon 4311. More savings from 5509. Hard decision

Got a cash (pickup) quote from a supplier
Onkyo NR 809 - HK7900
Onkyo NR 3009 -HK 12300

I probably only need the 809 since that seems the going price and im only running a 5.1 Krix setup and its for home threatre use only.

Can anyone explaiin why is the NR809 much cheaper from the US (~700USD) compared to the standard Hong Kong price?
