I guess I will stop mentioning if unlisted titles here are locked or not. Since you don't bother adding them to the list. What? what have I not added? I have had a look through the previous posts and assume you are refering to this one: Terminator 2 UK import is not FULLY region free but is labelled A and B on the cover, it works on my A PS3. Its also the director's cut and the best PQ/AQ out there for T2. Also, Total Recall UK import is region free. Sorry, I missed it. I have added Total Recall to my master-list (offline for next online update). Could you please elaborate on what "not FULLY" region free means? |

Looking to expand my small blu ray collection...can someone confirm if the UK Casino Royale is the uncut version (same as the aussie disc). I'd remember reading that the US version is cut, the run times (comparing the uk and us amazon sites) seem to confirm this 150 minutes v 144 minutes.
I assume the price of 13 pounds is fairly good? (saw it for $40 in jb hi fi). Also - Spiderman triliogy is going for 25 pounds...seems again to be good value v the aussie boxset selling for $79 in local stores...uk amazon has this one listed as multi region - is this correct also? |

My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that the UK casino royale is cut, but different to the US cuts. Story I heard was they removed part of the torture scene (the bit where Le Chiffre throws the rope over his shoulder - I think) as it was considered to "phallic" for UK sensibilities. Found this: QUOTE The International Cut Blu-ray Disc: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment distributes Casino Royale on the DVD and Blu-ray formats worldwide in a few slightly alternate editions depending on the ratings and censorship requirements of each territory. In the United States, some of the fight scenes were trimmed to secure a PG-13 rating. In the UK, the fights are longer but the scene of Le Chiffre torturing Bond was censored by the BBFC. The longest, most complete cut of the film was released on Blu-ray in Australia. Comparing the Australian and American discs, the changes amount to a total of 22 seconds of material across two scenes. In Chapter 1, Bond's bathroom brawl features more graphic strangulation and drowning in the international version, for an addition of 3 seconds. In Chapter 10, the stairwell fight has several minor alterations including Bond smashing the assailant's head through a window, a couple of extra body blows, and one shot of a dead body. The editing in this scene has also been tightened in the American cut, so other tiny changes are mostly invisible without frame-by-frame analysis. The length of the scene has been extended by 19 seconds on the Australian disc, but it really doesn't feel that much different. In direct comparison, the international cut is preferable, but overall I didn't feel that the trims in the American cut were significant. Most viewers would probably not notice them at all. Given the choice, I would personally prefer the import, but owners of the American Blu-ray disc may not necessarily feel the need to replace their copies. The Australian release is coded for Region A playback and will function in an American Blu-ray player. It comes packaged in a keepcase the same height and width as American Blu-rays, but with a spine thickness more like a standard DVD. The disc automatically opens with a lengthy Blu-ray promo that can fortunately be skipped but is a nuisance. Source This post has been edited by momaw: Aug 31 2008, 11:06 PM |

Found this: Source Cheers - thanks for that... So I should probably stick with the aussie version of Casino Royale...one thing I can't stand is having censors stuff with the director's intended film! Is there anywhere in aust that has Casino Royale for a fair price, considering its been out almost 2 years? $40 for an older release is a bit rich considering they were being given away free a while ago with sony players etc... Momaw - would it be safe to assume the UK spiderman trilogy is the same as what is available locally? This post has been edited by gavstar1: Aug 31 2008, 11:13 PM |

I think the poster is referring to a new phenomena where titles are being released Region AB (not ABC) and thus wont work on Region C players. |

Last I heard they had postponed that title.......(IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Amazon have it listed as being in stock, but I don't see it anywhere else yet. Expensive too at $27.95! A customer has uploaded an image of the back cover that is interactive. The disc is mistakenly indicated as being region 1 instead of region A. Unfortunately no mention of whether it's actually locked or not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) And they're not happy about transfer quality! Re. Region AB titles
Damn, another disclaimer to the list. They don't want to make things consumer friendly do they (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Form what I have heard (not tried) the following titles are region AB (not ABC): Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Director's cut) (Region AB) (UK release) Total Recall (Region AB) (UK release) Fog, The (1980) (Region AB) (UK release) Son of Rambow (Region AB) (UK release) (also has PAL trailers on disc insertion which is problematic for the PS3) And upcoming: Basic Instinct (Region AB) (UK release) (released on Sep 15) |
