On the subject of region coding.  It was declared unenforceable in Australia with DVD.
You can therefore insist that you BD player be multi-region enabled before you buy it.
Yeah good luck with that one. Let me see...how many multi-region enabled Blu-ray players presently exist in the world?.......well none that I know of......at least available to consumers. They might perchance have some squirelled away at Sony labs they're not telling us about.

So I'm afraid your choice is the same as Blu-ray consumers across the world, a region locked player or no Blu-ray at all, at least for the time being. But by all means write to your local MP or Fair Trading if you believe this is an unlawful practice.

And that is why many members here prefer HD DVD although accept the realities of this opposing HD disc format world we currently live in. Although by accepting it doesn't mean we have to like it.

Actually you can't.

The ruling said that it is not illegal to make a player region free.

It did not say that it was illegal to sell a region locked player.

According to the guy I bought my Blu-ray copy of Infernal Affairs from, the disc is region free.  I will confirm when I get it and add it to the list at that time.

I will also be getting Patlabor and Royal Space Force - The Wings of Honneamise at the end of the month so will report the region coding status of those for Anime fans (note that Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence was added to the list about a month back and is region locked - looks great though).

New Addition

Bridge to Terabithia (US Release) - Region Locked :(

Happy HD'ing

:)

This needs to be updated in the list at the start of this thread - still says region free. I just went to order it from Amazon and found out it's Region 1, as stated in this post.

The initial report of it being region locked and the amazon information has been found to be incorrect.  A number of sources have reported it working in Region "B" players since it's release.  I should have a copy soon and can test myself, but I am happy with the sources of information I have received to safely state it is region free.  Example of confirming source:

I'm very happy to let you guys with region A players know that the local region B releases of Ghost Rider and Seven Years in Tibet are region free.  Tested them myself.

With a few other releases in the last few days I'm hoping for some user contributions to help build the Region B Region Coding Status section.

Awesome.  Nothing like one of our own to confirm something.  Thanks.  Do you have any other titles you have bought from the US that work that are not in the list?

Yes, because it's from Warners who don't region code any of their titles.
