only sucks a little more than mine, about 1.5 days for my work unit
not sure that I really want to risk the premature demise of my PS3 by working it's guts out doing this stuff ...

The initial estimate it gives you when it first starts up each time, is way out. Wait till its done about an hours worth of folding and then it will give a reasonably accurate time to completion.
I doubt you are working the guts out of your PS3 at all Andrew. The Cell processor is ideal for these sort of calculations, and its probably just still has plenty of spare cycles in it even while its processing.
http://folding.stanf...du/FAQ-PS3.html
For PC's, my Core2Duo machines sit on 50% CPU usage when they're folding. My rendering machines, which are all SMP, sit on only about 15% total CPU usage, though theres now an SMP client to work the guts out of those machines...

Thanks mate, justa shame moderation dont see it that way and make this a sticky, now that we have separated the forums. Anybody who thinks this would be worthwhile as a sticky I would appreciate it if you contacted the mods and voiced your opinion.

Wow... look at that, both processors sitting on 100% (no more virtual machines running all day LOL)

I'll pin this thread for a period of 2 or so weeks due to visitor preference.

I'm going to start doing it on my Mac as well. Does anyone know how long each segment will take with a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo?

After installing some drivers that weren't vista friendly i needed to use system restore, problem is i lost all the frames that were completed. The thing that really shits me is that since my computer isn't on that much it's gonna take about a week to catch up to where i was.

I can't believe that from a forum with 28,000+ registered users, we can only muster 10 team members for this worthy cause.
We are currently ranked 9260 / 61435, and with a little effort we should easily push into the 8000's.
In case anyone doesn't realise, this process just sits happily in the background using and spare CPU cycles.
If you actually start to use your computer, the process goes to sleep and does not affect your system performance.
Cheers,
Andrew.
