Why should the pensioners be forced to pay full price for a service that hasnt been proed out in Rural Australia any way.
Also I contacted their customer service about 1 month ago and ended up in The Phillipines??????Not real good for an Aussie company....

LOL anyway, I know that the mystar service is reliant upon a good signal in your area and from your own antenna on your roof, and thats due to the fta networks, they won't permit being broadcast by satellite, so who knows maybe it will change, but I doubt your paying for it, my friend with a crappy analoge antenna complained once with the response that its 'not a paid for option' or something like that...I myself tho, found that it improved my signal greatly because I was only viewing analoge before...

I've had problems with series link not linking, very slow to respond when setting recordings from TV Guide, and the answer I get when I phone is "it needs formatting, let us know when it is empty".
Well, finally I have emptied it, and thought I would format it if I could, without having to go through the help/support phone system.

I have created this thread for those who have a genuine question for me about AUSTAR. I promise that as long as the question is direct, free of derogatory comments or tone, and constructive, I will answer where possible, or endeavour to find out for you if I do not know myself.
Any business rules stated here are not open for discussion or complaint, I am simply here to help where possible in providing information or advice, to help the customers be informed.

I look forward to helping all you budding subscription TV patrons out where possible.
Can you help me. I have just had MYSTAR HD installed and note that the box has a USB port at the back. Can I use this to play video directly from an external hard drive?

On my MyStar T106, whenever I bring up a menu, I get assaulted by jazz music.
This is good enough reason to cancel my subscription or pierce my eardrums.
Other than hitting "mute", is there any way I can stop or change this?
Question two.
I'm sick of selecting a show from the guide and getting the "You don't pay for this channel, loser" message.
Is there a good online guide where I can select which packages or options I opt for?
Cheers
Ziggy

The reason there is always annoying music on the EPG is so that after spending alot of time in the EPG, and your volume is quite loud, the tv show you switch to doesnt start blasting your eardrums.

No, Foxtel IQ does (for 7 day after lol), they also let you watch the replay on main event. Austar dont, you can only order it while its showing on Main Event, you cant record it and you cant watch the replays live on the channel again once you order it.

we use our mystar constantly. I'm guessing we can do some things via the front panel but not all of them. Can we series link and delete and things like that? Hmm series link I could do via online guide... so thats ok
Also today I was in harvey norman for anther reason and they had a universal tv remote. It has SAT as one of the options and the familiar 4 coloured buttons. Is there anyway to program this to use it as a partial austar remote ? Its a Philips SRP2008B- operates up to 8 devices apparently. Is this worth looking at or should I just take it back before I open it? The guy in the shop was predicably no help...
And thank you, any help would be much appreciated!

As for a remote replacement, I got mine within 2 days. They say 7 days, but Ive gone through 2 and had them within 2 days of asking. Also after awhile they start working again for some odd reason, my remote goes on and off (the batteries are perfect, the first remote went within 4 weeks of getting Mystar)

Thanks! Looks like I'll have to wait, the philips doesn't want to setup with anything. Apparently its not even sold in Oz, so not sure how HN got it lol. Might have a look at the logitech ones though, would be handy for when the kids lose the remote as a back up

Now waiting on austar to send a replacement remote. Problem is our planner is full, I can't delete anything and all our bookings are failing. I don't suppose there is some trick to deleting programs without an austar remote by using the front of the mystar?
Thank you

It will take priority with oldest shows first, viewed takes priority over not yet viewed, and non-series-link shows get deleted first too.

There is two splitters high up on the outside wall next to each other, obviously one is Austar and the other for FTA. But there aren't enough cables coming of them for the number of outlets in the house, so we are hoping to juggle some of the cables to get FTA to this room. He doesn't plan to get Austar at this stage. Could there be an additional splitter up in the roof?
One interesting thing that I've never seen before is that the LNB has 3 cables off it. I have Mystar so I understand the 2 cable system but three cables??? Any suggestions?
He plans to get up in the roof on the weekend and follow the cables.
Just something extra, the cable from the FTA aerial goes directly to the splitter on the wall. Two of the cables from the Austar dish go directly to its splitter, the third cable disappears up into the roof.
Does any of this make sense??
