Are you able to post your findings? According to Teac this new software version will resolve most of the current issues and added a number of new features. 1. Timer recording lock up. HAVE HAD RECORDING DISSAPEAR 2. Faster respond to command. 3. Better USB disk hot plug for mass-storage. 4. Better HDD disk management. STILL NOT SURE ON THIS I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS 5. The HDD check is only triggered if the box was hard-rebooted (power off) while it isn't in stand by mode. If it's in standby (and timeshift is therefore suspended and the disk is not in use), you can power off, then on and the disk will be available immediately. However, from now on, using the reboot via the ON/STANDBY front panel button (press 5 seconds until the LCD screen goes black), there will be no HDD check. 6. Improvement for MP3 playback (upon playing invalid MP3). 7. Resume playback from last position (with in 60 seconds of stop). 8. Resume playback from a last recording position. 9. Possible to assign thumbnail to video files for external storage devices (in any folder which contains videos, you may create a subfolder ".albumArt" into which you may store JPEG thumbnails for each video. Simply name each JPEG file in this subfolder with the same name, by replacing the video extension with jpg. For instance, if you have a video "myvacation.wmv", create a thumbnail image .albumArt/myvacationjpg, this thumbnail will be displayed in the info bar when the video is selected (note that the folder itself will be hidden). 10. Possible to add video preview in banner (by pressing “INFO” button then toggle up/down to select channel that you wish to preview). 11. Support *.VOB video file (DVD video format). HAVE TESTED THIS IT WORKS WELL 12. Network connection (Window Media Connect). HAVE CONNECTED VIA WMP11 WMC NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE 13. Intermittent picture and sound mute. 14. Add support subtitle for WMV. a. Please rename the attached “test.srt” file the same name as your WMV video, for example in your USB HDD have a video file name “My holiday.wmv” you would need to place the attached file into your USB HDD and rename to “My holiday.srt”, (the attached file “test.srt” will decode and display the subtitles from the WMV video file.) -------------------- The new software does allow Networking to Shared Folder on PC but I have not yet checked it with USB. I am advised that separately powered USB is required but I believe that may only apply to large exports. Exporting to shared folder on pc is a very slow process and I my case took about 45 minutes to export a 1hr recording. I don't know yet whether it is particular to my unit but the teac exported packets of information a few percent at a time and in between gave me the message "export failed" I advised teac and then tried it again and found that even though the message appeared it would start again and complete the total recording export. If it is a large export the teac will create several files, I think that each file is less than 2gb. I have had a couple of lockups which I didn't have with the previous version but it's great being able to play a movie from your PC and also save recordings to the PC. Picture quality is great. Look forward to hearing your experience. Newdig |

I am currenlty using 4.7.24.1 becuase I can share a folder (SMB share) on a netwrk drive without having to start up my PC. I tried 4.7.29 but found that this feature had been lost. Is it back in 4.7.31? Thanks. |

Nope wow, how strange, especially for a high end unit like the Teac. Even my cheap DGtec has PiP (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) |

Well, interesting results after upgrading.
Firstly, and most importantly, my recordings disappeared, much to my wife's disgust. Looks like I'll be downloading Californication for her. Picture quality has changed, the colours are less vibrant, I had to adjust the colour setting on my TV. It also seems more CRT like, perhaps softer is the right description. There were some Myer adds on last night and Jennifer Hawkins has never looked so good (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Need to do a bit more watching but it does seem to be more natural, skin tones seem better. I did not have any sounds dropouts or black screens once after the upgrade. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I did have one hang after the upgrade, I pressed the * button to check the version and I couldn't get rid of it and nothing else would work, I had to reset the box. The PIP in the info-bar is cool, you can use it to see when the adds have finished on another channel. It doesn't work if you are recording another channel though, as to be expected, there are only two tuners after all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Haven't tried resume play yet but this will be very useful in my home in that I will no longer be required to sit and stare at a frozen screen waiting for my wife to return from whatever she's doing. Performance of the menu functions is vastly improved. Channel changing appears to be about the same, still a bit slow at two seconds or thereabouts. Not sure if there was a problem with Supernatural in Sydney last night but I wanted to see if the performance whilst recording one high-def show and watching another with time shifting was better. I got a bad picture and stuttering. The problem with fast forwarding recorded shows whilst it is still on has not been fixed, you get "Programme has ended" message. More testing tonight. |

Hi All,
I guess now that 4.7.31 is a public release I no longer have to offer tests with this firmware. I have found it pretty good so far. Had to soft re-boot once because my wife turned off the PC in the middle of playing a MP3 and it caused a lock up. Other than that it has been good. I have taken a little more notice while watching and on several occasions I had garbled sound and video while moving to and from the menu system. As mentioned earlier it is more of a limitation of the hardware than a problem with firmware etc. I haven't noticed any moments of blanks screens, not with this firmware or previous firmware. DickCampbell19: I am currently using shared folder to access files from my PC on 4.7.31. I'm not sure if you can access shared folders from a network drive but it definately works with a PC. This is the folder I setup within the settings of the TEAC then shared it on my PC. I am definately not using WMC to stream/access files it is SMB sharing. I hope this helps. Dale. |

The SMB support is definitely back. In fact it just worked automatically using the settings I previously had in there.. |

Its a bummer that after applying the update, channel 999 still shows that an upgrade to a much older firmware version is required...
Will they ever fix this bug? |
