Ok now this post I could really get into a list of whats out, whats coming out and what we can expect to pay.

i have been waiting for LG to release theirs, but then again, I also want a HD tuner and not many DVR'S seem to have them, mind you, its not like we have a list a mile long to choose from either.

As long as something descent comes out within 2 weeks so i can watch Bathurst with a good picture, Ill be happy.

This is one thread I will be watching as I really hope we can start compiling some good info.

Do we know if the Panasonic's have sorted out the aspect ratio flag with burning widescreen to a DVD (currently defaults to 4:3)?

I've got a widescreen so not a big issue but with the addition of the DVB tuner it would seem like a relevant issue now...(yes it was before but now it's more so with the unit recording native widescreen content from the DVB tuner)

Thanks

Rob

Probably will have to wait till November when people start buying them and run some tests to answer that question.

Quick Question please for a newbie.

I am travelling to Hong Kong next week and will be checking for Digital Tuner HDD/DVD Recorders, like these listed here in the thread, while I am over there.

What is/are the specifications I need to check on to ensure I get a piece of equipment that will work over here, ie DVB or DVB-t? teletext types etc

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Yes, DVB-T, but it ALSO needs to be able to tune to 7MHz channel spacing, and both VHF and UHF frequencies (unless you live in the bush where it's all UHF). Check the specs before you buy.

Is that all? I have the feeling I've forgotten something.

Sony, RDR-HXD760 is available today according to supplier web sites in Aus.
Best price I have found is $829.92 from pcau.com

Will keep an eye on it incase supplies have been delayed. If anybody else can confirm
supplier stock that would be good so I can change status to available. I'll consolidate this and
other subsequent info into that top post when i get my 10 posts up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

Get ready to blow your mind in HK, was told via these various forums to visit. Its just 2 stops on the MTR (Mass Transit Rail - under ground train) about 10 minutes from Kowloon. I bought a Camera, Phone and Yamaha receiver at half price to OZ. Keep in mind most warranties do not apply.

The Yau Shing Commercial building
51 Sai Yeung Choi St
Mongkok

Walk out of the MTR building go out of Bank exit joint is about the 3rd building entrance on the left, or walk out onto Sai Yeung Choi St and turn left there is another entrance to same building up about 20 metres. Start on 16th floor! and work your way down. A few of the lower floors (think) 4 down are restaurants.

Tip: If you looking for any electrical items make sure you know the models and prices before you leave OZ.

Thanks for that info foxtail. If time permits (and it should) I will head out that way. How did you go with bringing the receiver back on the plane (weight and size limits etc). What sort of AV receiver equipment do thay have? That is what sort of brands should I be checking the prices of, obviously Yamaha, but denon?, onkyo?, kenwood? etc

The Yammy was 22kg! on its own, we travel real light going OS, Cathay Pacific allowed extra 5kg each but we were still 8 kg over, price for extra freight of $1400HKD about $250AUD. Due to flight being over booked came back to Cairns via Sydney (instead of direct flight) so no extra was paid.

Bought the Yamaha RX-V4600 for $1215AUD at Mongkok (16th floor), in OZ it was originally $3999 but a few went on recent runout here for $2000, still an absolute bargain.

All I can say, is once you walk out of the lift on the 16th floor you will firstly need to pick up your jaw up from the floor, they have whole racks of model/brand name Receivers, Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo and the list goes on, DVD players and a speakers to blow the mind, plus a real nice sound room should you wish to audition. In all of my world travels over the years I have never ever seen anything like it, GO THERE!.

Oh' that is only one floor! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

and... out in the streets you will not believe your eyes at the many thousands of mobiles and cameras on display its simply awesome in Mongkok.

Are there any new models due from Pioneer with a digital tuner?
I saw some new models on the Japan Pioneer website that look good with the option to add additional external hard drives to expand beyond the built in HDD capacity.
Is there a LG HD STB/HDD recorder expected soon too?
Anyone have any info on either of these options?
Dan.

Hi
I know nothing about the LG options but Pioneer have something in the wind ,probaly early 2007 according to a Computer Wholesaler we deal off, but now that they have entered into a Partnership/Co-operation agreement with Panasonic who knows what will eventuate.

I went to the home show back in May and LG had one on dispaly. It was just a mock up but the specs were 250gig HD, DVDR and I think dual SD tuner (not sure on the dual). It was gonna be $999.00 and its release date was this month. I cant find the post I made, but remember it was May 19, It even had the model number. Ill try and go back and find my post and put in the details.
