I could see where you would get some signal there Marc, and possibly a stronger signal maybe up Massey St on Tier Hill but if it was in Havelock St area or over the bridge I doubt if there would be any at all - it is all to do with height

And as you say, it would be very prone to mainland propagation. I have never had a call for even a site survey down there, so it is all guesswork! It could prove us wrong! :o As I have mentioned, I have had some limited success at the some of the holiday shacks  between Rocky Cape and Port Latta!

Living in Massey St, where in my younger years i could have thrown a stone from my house & hit the tower, I have only SBS & ABC digital coverage as reported. I don't seem to have any trouble with mainland channels even in summer with an external antenna. I would be interested in seeing if i could pick up Mt Barrow but finding the time to do it, pick up the phone & get someone else to do it, or even to think about it in normal daylight hours just doesn't happen in my schedule. I was waiting till HD televisions came down in price a bit more. but if someone's coming down this way & is interested in having a go i'd be interested to know. I must be the only house with three street boundaries near the tower.

Give Smithton Television a call.

They may be able to advise and help.

I find this so frustrating!!! Does anyone have any sort of answer on an expected date for Burnie or Wynyard? Where would I go to find one? Who could I write to to express the frustration that I am feeling at being left with SFA despite purchasing a set top box after being told 'we'll be online next month' over years ago! :o

ABC1 ABC2 & SBS digital are running from these sites.

So in the interim, you have half the potentially available channels available.  :D

Quite right Marc - half the channels available that less than 10% of the population watch  <_<

I have heard more about the Burnie/Wynyard start dates a couple of weeks back, but I wonder the worth of posting hearsay on here, only to be let down AGAIN by both WIN and STHNX  :(

And Rogan....... It does not matter who or what you write to, you will most likely not get any reply!

Hmmm - in my age & background demographic it seems to be about 40% - although SBS lost a few now they are advertising central.

I heard similar rumours as well - prolly from a similar source - don't build anybody's hopes up they'll only speak bad of you when it doesn't happen.

At least my part of the world has full digital availability*

Enjoy digital with relish (or sauce) then  :D

You'd be right about the source - and no I'm not saying a word. Three years behind the original planned start-up date of August '05 already! And you'd think that those problems that the rumors refer to would have shown long ago in the initial planning stages (or very soon after!)

Well blow me down and knock me over with a feather

The public notice has appeared in todays advocate for Test Broadcasting to commence for Sthn X and TDT from Round Hill on channels 65 & 68 repectively! Commencement date of August 1st - Friday.  ;)  No mention of either Win or Table Cape commencing! Hopefully it will be not to long after. Hip Hip Hooray!!!

Now for the co-channel interference problems with VCR's and Austar STB's to show their ugly heads :ninja:

Todays Hobart Mercury is reporting that Southern X & TDT will start in Burnie as of Tomorrow. It also says that WIN will start a few days later. Looks like the long wait is close to its end. ^_^

I was under the assumtion that Table Cape was waiting and ready to go when Round Hill came on line!

But during conversing with lizclinton, and his subsequent chating to Sthn X techs, they are still looking for a site??? I don't know what is wrong with their existing site that is already there?  Maybe it requires a trip up there and a quick chat to the land owners that I am aquainted with!

The tower on Table Cape is rusted to a dangerous point and cannot take any more weight on it. The owner of the land has declined having a new bigger tower placed on their land and the techs need a new site for a new tower, so I doubt there will be a short term fix.

This is of course Heresay from the commercial channels

Cheers

I would like to know this as well.
I have been able to pick up most Digital Channels since moving into this house 14 months ago. Southern Cross has always been a bit hit and miss as to reception but on the most part bearable.
I have noticed over the last couple of weeks though that we have been getting better and better Southern Cross reception.

I have tried a few times over the weekend to see if I could get anything from Round Hill. I assume that being as I am able to get digital already then I should be able to get Round Hill if its in fact working. If not, what may I need to change to start getting the Round Hill signal???

I assume that you are in Burnie - you don't give your location and most of the North West Coast are able to receive digital from Mt Barrow.

If you are receiving digital reception from Mt Barrow - your antenna is likely to be on the horizontal plane (fingers parallel to the ground). This is 90 degrees out of phase with the signal from Round Hill - so you'd be having trouble receiving the Hill thru that. (My Mt Barrow antenna is pointing directly at Round Hill but is the horizontal plane - can't get a sniff of any signal from Round Hill - including the existing ABC & SBS digital channels but no probs with Barrow!)

Maybe Round Hill is "off the air"over the weekend - I haven't got my meter or an antenna to point that way yet. I should know more after the Round Hill road trip on Tuesday and hopefully we'll be able to chat to some techs and get the true story from the horses mouth so to speak!!

Highly unlikely where you are dave.b!..............  Sorry

You can only hope Dave's posting re Table Cape is total BS and it might, I said MIGHT be up and running soon.  <Shhh ... don't tell anyone but I did have had a couple of unsubstantiated reports yesterday and today from around Wynyard that people with antennae  pointing in Table Cape 's direction and away from Round Hill did get some TDT reception on  Friday afternoon, but was all gone by Saturday. This was told to me and I am unable to confirm it, so we'll wait on this one and report later!>

Sorry, yes I am in Burnie. Knew I would forget to put something in there when I asked the question.

I will try rotating the antenna and see what happens.
Gonna have to wait till this rain passes though so I can get back up on the roof.

Just got two channels come thru the side of my Table Cape direction one Clinton - UHF 65 & 68 but as you'd expect - no quality! No sign of WIN channel tho.  I still need to set up an antenna to Round Hill and do some measurements. Will speak with you up there tomorrow!

I hope it is too, but that is what I have heard from a member of the Burnie Council that is the case.

A Southern Cross Technician has told me that as of 11.45am today Round Hill is active.

I just climbed up and rotated my antenna 90deg and hit re-tune on my HD Tuner.
All channels (WIN, Southern Cross, TDT, SBS & ABC) coming in strong.

The missus is concerned cause she has to remember new channels on the remote now but its a small price to pay.
