Hi al,

Could anyone help me with their opinion of running Rotel RB 1090's as mono blocks for my Dynaudio Confidence 5's or am I wasting my time? Any ideas as to how I would hook them up?

jees missed this post altogether sorry dyn.

if lookign for an upgrade from the 1090 in my opinion your better off selling the 1090 you have and upgrading to a better amp for the money you have. the confidence speakers can do with with some higher end amps, brands the likes of cyrus, arcam, mf, elktra would be some you could check out the confidence with. Have a look in the upgrades section of the htfaq sticky under power amps for some more ideas.

Another thank you for this excellent FAQ al. Specifically, this post in one of the "Where to put the sub?" links.

(As much as I'd love to be able to place it front and centre in our new place, I'm pretty well restricted to hiding it in the back right corner. I have to run some speaker cables through the ceiling and down the back wall for the rears, and thus was going to run a third one for the sub. I see now that coax is preferred for the sub.)

That's what I had to do too but the focal SW loves being in a corner and it works fine.

A 2nd your comments about the FAQ. I use it a lot when I want to find something.

All things are possible - several 'high - end' studios master in as much as 16.4!!! But their needs are very different from any HT setups....

The short answer is no - combine the money of a 10.2 crap heap featuring DA and build a nice clean 5.1 starting point with good honest down to earth speakers... thats my advice anyway

My lounge room is quite big i mean big is really big I have yamaha rx375 with accoasound  Omega series. now  seems to that the sound quality is very good  but not enough for the room, where as a gift I will get pioneer A/v receiver and  any floor standing speakers within a certain price range I want. So that is the reason I just need to know how I can setup better HT. so if you guys can help me so that I can split those sound  it will be great. I also have Warfdale 12" .

Hi, need some advise/direction...

I have an LG DVD-Player [non-multi region] with Digital Tuner and surround sound speakers, presently attached to a standard TV, but intend purchasing a large LCD HDTV. Now, I'm looking to purchase a DVD-R HDD which is a bog-standard DVD-R with analogue tuner [with multi-region], nothing flashy but it should do the job. Now, what is the best way to connect up these devices to each other, to ensure PQ and audio is great.. and allowing me to utilise the multi-region on the DVD-R, and recording playback is digital, if possible.

Does this all make sense, I just need advise on how to best connect all these units to get the best results. Or maybe you have other suggestions?  Cheers..

Why ?


Basicly you need to hook the DVR up somewhere after the LG tuner, possibly between the LG tuner and the display.( LG -> DVR -> TV ) This will sort your recording needs. Alternatively if the display has the appropriate output you could hook the LG direct to the TV, then the DVR to the display output.

If you want to play back via the new DVR, then this would have to be connected to a "line in" on the LG if it has one.



Personally, given that LG sucks, i'd bin the LG, buy a TV with built in tuner, and run the DVR through an AV reciever to power your surround speakers. But that will probably cost you quite a bit more.

Bit of a strange grouping. First up all DVDRs output in analogue so "recording playback is digital". Also as you want a standard analogue DVDR then where is the 'digital' coming from? You're also looking at buying a HDTV but DVDRs are basically 'SD quality' devices. Not sure if you wouldn't be better off keeping the DVD you have and grabbing a cheap digial PVR

PS Might help if you provided a bit of an idea of how you intend to use your TV/recorder/etc. day to day. We may have some better alternatives.

thanks dyn. re the dyns can they be bi-amped - might be an option with hte stereo 1090's. dont really know hte 1090 at all to be honest to comment if they can be bridged to run as mono blocs. if they can be should say so in the manual, alternatively could be a switch of sorts to apply on the amps itself. jsut a word of caution last time I remember when we bridged a 1066 it really changed the charecter of the amp to its detriment. somethign not sure if you want, but you'd soon know on hearing. if cant use em bridged, maybe sell one ? or sell both and buy a better amp again ? as not sure you'd be fully exploiting the potential of the confidence's with the rotels. worth trying somethgin else as well to know.

1, according to Rotel the 1090 can't be bridged.
2, why on earth, when already outputing 340W per channel, would you want to ?

I've got a 5.1 setup at home and yet on the amp there is a sticker that displays it's 7.1 ready...the Amp can only hold 5 speakers plus the sub.
So what does that mean 7.1 ready???

Can some please explain it to me...thanks
