Re:Just a quick note guy and girls, be very careful, I have been hit with a burn in issue with the channel 9 cricket watermark/logo.
I now have the channel 9 watermark/Logo burnt in on my 5 month old Panasonic HD plasma, but only on a white or grey screen, I can cleary see the bloody channel 9 logo.
Its been 2 weeks and its still there, I've got a service guy coming out to look at it Monday morning.
I've been so careful with contrast/Brightness settings still all around 50% and never really leaving a program on to long or pausing dvd's and xbox to a min. The cricket was on for 2-3 hrs Max.
Any thoughts guys, you pay $4500 for a Tv and F*ck me this happens!
Where do you stand on warranty????
Keep trucking!

Update:
Tv has been picked up and been fixed by the Tech, who ran a white screen for most of the day, and the Ch-9 cricket logo has gone, thats great, so if I watch the cricket it might come back.
The lady at the repair shop has said that Panasonic has said in future please refer to page 3 of your owners manual for static image and burn in's!
So there telling me that I cant watch the cricket becuase of there bloody 9 logo, might cause a problem again!
My viewing habbit are dictated by what watermark/logo is on the screen!
Any thoughts here guys!
Not happy Jan!

I have watermarks on all 4 corners of my rear projection TV and they are here to stay.
Didnt you know about the burn in problems that plasmas can have? I thought it was common knowledge.

It is common knowledge, but when it stops you from watching a normal TV program then it sorta gets out of hand. I've had the tennis running with the 7 logo in the top right since 7:30 tonight.. almost 4 hours straight and not a hint of burn-in or wash. My pana is now 7 months old..

your plasma is still pretty new isn;t it, they do say that for the first 100 hrfs plasmas are a bit susceptle to this sort of thing.
I never did anything special for the first 100 hrs with my hitachi and to be honest never had anything like this in the last year and a half and watch a fair bit of the cricket myself.
can only suggest reviewing your settings or this is somethign more specific to a pana or something.
whats the page 3 of the manual say to stop it happening on yoru plasma?

"do not allow a still picture to be displayed for an extended period.........examples of still pictures include logos, video games, computer images, teletext and images displayed in 4:3 mode"
Can anyone define "extended period"???
30 mins......
1 hour.....
1 day........
It's ridiculous. They can't use that as an excuse. Was this explicitly explained when you bought the unit?
"Sir here is your new TV, but you can't watch 4:3 tv, most sporting events, or let your kids play computer games for extended periods!!???"
Seriously, I actually thought that plasma burn-in was not a major issue on new plasma screens. This forum and many others seem to reflect this thought. Sure I'm not about to leave the latest lotto draw burning into my plasma overnight, but if I want to check it for a few minutes, is that an extended period of time????
If you're a reasonable person, using your TV in a reasonable fashion, then in my opinion you shouldn't experience burn-in. If you are, and it wasn't explained that this will happen, then I would consider the TV not operating as reasonably expected.
rant over.
thank you and good night!

CAUTION:
Do not allow a still picture to be displayed for an extended period, as this can cause a
permanent after-image to remain on the Plasma TV.
Examples of still pictures include logos, video games, computer images, teletext and
images displayed in 4:3 mode.
With no signal present, and without any user operation, the Panasonic screensaver will
appear automatically after a few minutes to prevent image retention.
Note:
The permanent after-image on the Plasma TV resulting from fixed image use is not an
operating defect and as such is not covered by the Warranty.
This product is not designed to display fixed images for extended periods of time.

So is watching the cricket part of the above (Static image) they are talking about???

Wow I really dont want to put the wind up you here BUT for the longevity of ANY plasma this is a huge NO NO.
It depletes the life of the panel big time !

I believe anything that is commercially presented as a television signal, i.e FTA and foxtel should be covered by warranty. Any TV that cant handle whats broadcast as NORMAL on tv cant possibly be fit for sale..
See my post above, my 7 month old pana has no issues with watermarks, and is probably the same model - It does sound like you got a dud to me.

Same thing happened to my uncle, who has the Pioneer 436. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me - the TV stations should be forced to reduced the brightness of their logos, or else get rid of them altogether.

I spoke with him about burn in and he mentioned to me that Pioneer are in talks with Ch9 at the moment about ensuring they display a transparent logo for cricket and so on. He said they've had 100's of complaints of burn in and its become a very serious issue.

Channel nines Logo isnt a static image.
Ads appears after every over therefore the screen colours change.
Now folks if you experience a burn in you can rectify this with a PC rather than doing a wash.
Its a matter of hooking your PC up via d sub going into the colour palette choose white and then circle around the burn in.Leave that on for about 10 mins or more depending on burn in and it should disappear.
Infact plasma burn ins these days shouldnt be permanent according to many I have spoken with.

can anyone add anything further to this (from panasonis manual).
"With no signal present, and without any user operation, the Panasonic screensaver will

Is this something that should have prevented this burn-in problem ??

(dont you love long boring cricket test matches)
The ads only run for 1-2 minutes.. and the Pioneer tech told me that if your watching something with a static image for more then 40 minutes that you should run a moving/changing image for 15 minutes.
I dont know how true this is, but thats what he said.

thing is I've watched the cricket for hours and hours hell the whole game. never experienced this sort of thing. All I can think off is you guys are running very high brightness and contrast(eg factory) settings or this is some thing particualr to these panels making them more susceptible to this issue.

But after 20 minutes watching normal tele it was gone.
Im not running factory settings.

I don't have sky but 20min is still hell of a long time for image retention. Now days a few seconds(certainly not minutes) probably the most I experience and would accept.
part of the issue maybe is most of you guys panels are pretty new and think theyre more susceptible to this sort of thing at that stage. When I first got my panel used to notice after watchign extended bits of 4:3 where the bars were it might be a bit lighter. But again that was gone in maybe single figure minutes at most. Certainly now don't even notice any effect of the bars.
only other thing I can think is these newer panels are higher brightness and contrast in design so burn this sort of thing in deeper ?

no you wouldn't think hours would be the issue in your case then given its got a fair bit under the belt. Could only think its brightness and contrast either by setting or design then.

Firstly all my settings are at 50% or less, not keen on a picture thats to bright! So its not my settings!
And have been so, so careful with games and Foxtel.
Spoke with the service guy, and Panasonic have spoke to him and said that if I watch any static image/Logos for a extended period of time this will happen again. So Im now not aloud to watch the cricket because this will accur again, and they will not fix it again under warranty.
Great my first love is cricket, and my Television viewing is dictated by a bloody Ch-9 logo/watermark.
The channel 9 cricket logo is the only problem, I have with this Plasma, its a great set otherwise and 100% happy with its performance.

P.S
What can we do guys, do we email ch-9 or do I walk upstairs and watch my trusty Mitsubishi Tv, thats 10 years old and still running great.
