QUOTE ............Native Resolution XGA 1024x768 4:3 DLP DDR12 If you run this is 16:9 your vertical resolution will drop around 25%, so you'll end up with around 576 actual usable pixels QUOTE ............Low Noise: 34 dB Bit too loud, aim for 30dB or lower QUOTE DLP DDR12 MAke sure you see it and are not affected by the "rainbow effect" that some people experience with DLP pj's |

Wasn't too fussed about the drop in resolution, but I am concerned about noise. If 34 is audible, then I best move on and find something a little quieter.
Thanx for the info. |

For that sort of money try the Panasonic AE300.

If you plan to use it for DVDs and Digital TV(which is why you're posting here, I presume (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ), something with a 16:9 panel might be the go.
Don't get too hung up on noise, you can always build a 'hush box' around the PJ. Both LCD & DLP have fans in them so the noise level will vary from model to model. The AE300, as has been suggested, is worth a look, so is the Sony HS10. If you want good blacks a 2nd hand CRT PJ would be the go as long as you can control ambient light and don't mind a thing the size of a bar fridge on the ceiling, or built into a coffee table. I decided against DLP because I like to watch movies, etc with mates and the last thing you want to discover is that one of your guests gets splitting headaches from watching it. That's worse than running out of food or drink. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Each PJ technology has pros & cons, you just have to decide which cons you can live with. |

If you want to get a Panasonic AE300, you can get them imported for $3500 and save up $500 - $1500 on the domestic price. The only issue is the warranty won't be respected by Panny Australia, so you'll have to ship it back overseas if there's a problem. Nonetheless, here are two options:

Pricejapan gets good wraps. You can checkout archived Usenet posts with Google and search for pricejapan for some Australian experiences with them.

I purchased my AE100 well over a year ago from Clive Peters for what was an Excellent price at the time. Two of my friends purchased directly from PriceJapan and the prices were awesome!!! One purchased the AE200 and the other more recently purchased the AE300.
OK now the other consideration when buying from PriceJapan!! If something goes wrong you are supposed to send it back to PriceJapan for repair, which basically means postage&Insurance costs. The AE200 Power supply went after 20-30hours of use. My friend was told it would have to be sent back to Panasonic Japan. He didn't take no for an answer and as a result got it repaired through Panasonic Australia even though the AE200 wasn't available in Australia at the time. Pricejapan is worth considering. Cheers Paul |
