QUOTE (nickcom01 @ Nov 29 2003, 02:30 PM)
The name is currently being decided, and ten digital or ten tasmania have been suggested apparently (very uninspired names...) obviously it wont be southern cross ten, because WIN own half. They are looking for non-ten names for the station aswell, so thats sorta weird.

From a logical and economic standpoint, it would obviously better to call it something boring like Tas Ten or whatever, as they could then use all the promos etc from Ten without having to modify them or create their own.

OTOH, if they want to brand the channel in a way to make it appear fresh/local etc with their own name/logo, then that might have a positive spin-off as it gives the channel the value of local branding which could be totally unique to Tasmania (even if it is only Ten underneath that brand).

Either Ten Digital or Ten Tasmania are good choices in my opinion. I hate the practise of coming up with unique names for networks that are mirror images of their origins. Why not just call it 10 and leave it at that?! Regardless a link to the Ten name is a must, and to give it a unique Tassie touch 'Ten Tasmania' sounds fine.

I guess this means that Southern cross may eventually be called 'Southern Cross Seven' once analogue broadcasting comes to an end. Pity it couldn't have been the other way around so that Southern Cross Tas would be in line with Southern Cross 10 on the mainland, but obviously with their strong exisiting Seven affiliation this isn't possible.

P.S. Thanks god the TasTv name won't see the light of day! I was severely cringing over that prospect! Let that quaint little name stay where it belongs: back in 1985! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

So... when are we going to see something? I'm sick of these dates being set and then not being followed though on.

I have been talking to answering machines at the ABA all afternoon. Talk about a toothless tiger. I'm still waiting for someone up there to call me back. It seems that regardless of what deadlines are set by the Authority they mean nothing to these guys down here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Sorry Nick, but the TasTV name sucked in the eighties, and its "suck factor" has only tripled in the zeros! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

When I hear the name I think "quaint little Tasmanian small town TV station" and I live here! Ten Digital or Ten Tasmania sounds a squillion times more professional! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Just got an e-mail back from the TasTV General Manager. It seems the test pattern will be up just before christmas (22nd December) and will run a straight Channel 10 feed from Melbourne for the first 4 weeks then there will be a few changes put in place. I can only hope the test pattern will be up by then...

Thanks for the info Matthew I'm still waiting for a call back from the ABA. They must be on a very long weekend. Makes you wonder about the ABA saying that the service must be up and running within 12 months of the licence being issued doesn't it.
