Beardy was telling me the TasTV General Manager has indeed been appointed now, and they are also putting on a sales manager in the near future.
No one seems to know anything about the broadcasting side of things though, so unless it really is a matter of them receiving mainland feeds and rebroadcasting them from Mount Wellington, I’d say it’s still a while off. You are right about the ABA license requirements though, so they had better get their act together quickly! I would say Southern Cross's recent switch to 16x9 was not so much to please the very small number of digital viewers in Hobart, but rather to meet the basic technical requirements fro the new channel. On a related note I imagine since Southern Cross will be handling the broadcasting side of things for TasTV, that we'll be getting the same digital-PAL-digital signal that we get from them now, until they’re able to deliver a digital signal next year (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Better than nothing of course, but still frustrating. |

QUOTE do you know who the manager is out of curiosity? No idea sorry mate. Beardy's the man with the info (he works at WIN) so you might want to email him. QUOTE by the way, dont be too frustrated... i dont suppose youve done any reading on the situation in darwin... I have indeed. Poor bastards (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I do appreciate that Hobart has a decent DTV situation compared to some other areas, but I just hate seeing it implemented poorly without the quality and features that make DTV so worthwhile. Even though I love HD, now and next info, multi-channelling features etc (i.e. all the things that the mainland capital cities enjoy) all I really want is top quality *proper* digital picture quality from WIN (in fairness to Win they do sometimes deliver this) and Southern Cross, as ABC have delivered from day one. Soft drab picture quality and nasty analogue picture artefacts just give me the $hits. I realise there are technical limitations preventing this however, so I'll just have to be patient I guess (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |
