Laurie: Yep, that Meatloaf - Storyteller is a fantastic dvd. That is the one I lent to my relative. I think as far as SQ is concerned, of all that I have, this is the best followed by The Corrs - Unplugged and Eagles - Hell Freezes Over.

Can you please confirm for me if Eric Clapton-Live On Tour 2001 on your list is given 5 stars for its SQ or PQ or both? To get an idea, how does it compare to the Meatloaf Storyteller dvd in terms of SQ?

Cheers.

Yep video shows up really bad on my screen/progressive scan player I take a concert dvd to be a audio/visual experience if one is poor then to me it spoils the whole concert again mainly due to poor lighting which by the way is typicial of Meat Loaf discs for e.g. some was due to the way it was shoot BUT when you see what Pioneer did with Queen your jaws will drop from the original release I had to get it from the states I will try a screen shot

Gee Laurie, I thought I had a big bunch of music DVD's, boy you take first place, dam good taste too, congrats.

My fav's are Eagles-Hell Freezes Over (No.1 in my book), Fleetwood Mac-The Dance and Rod Stewart-It Had To Be you. Many friends have bought these same ones after viewing/hearing mine.

You dead right in that you can play music DVD's over and over again but movies only every so often. I have a 5 disk DVD player so I always leave 3 of my fav music ones in the rack, also when someone wants a demo its ready to go. On the big screen and new amp/speaker setup it knocks their socks off!.

After seeing your whopping list I will have to go DVD music shopping ASAP.

Cheers...

Yeah, please keep us posted on Pink Floyd's Pulse.  I had the VCD, but disappointing PQ especially on a plasma TV.  The pixellation! ...Phwaw!  Some of them were palm-sized!  I gave the VCD to a mate who'd just purchased a DVD player and had no discs; he has a smaller size TV so the horrendous video quality should not be quite so apparent.. Pulse was very much like the concert I attended in Melbourne in 1988.

From Pinkfloydz.com:

" It has been confirmed by Pink Floyd's Management (PFM) that work on upgrading the picture quality was completed last week (11 Feb) However, there is still a lot of work to be done.

"The additional work includes working out just what extras to include!

"No release date has yet been confirmed, but mid 2005 is something they are working towards."

Really looking forward to Pulse, but it has just taken forever for them to release it.

Best concert I have seen (although Roger Waters "In the Flesh" is pretty damn good). Comfortably Numb = totally awesome.

Something to get even if you only have a slight interest in Floyd material.

Picking three is hard But have to agree with a few of the posts

1) Eric Clapton - One More Car, One More Rider (5.1/DTS)
2) Roger Waters In The Flesh (2.0/5.1)
3) George Benson - Absolutely Live (5.1/DTS)

And there are probably others worth getting as well.

I have to disagree, the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" is a bit over reated, although reviewed as a must have dvd in any collection and being one of the most popular dvd's, although released 6 years ago and being probably the best number one best selling dvd of all time. I feel its worn out its welcome. Especially since Eagles songs get flogged daily wherever you go.

As for Rod Stewarts "it had to be you - the great american songbook" thats a great dvd and well worth getting, with a mix of his new classic American Standards and A slection of his greatest popular hits. A great dvd.
Also "Rod Stewart - Live At The Royal Albert Hall" will be a great dvd to get. Haven't seen the dvd but the selection of this the ABC played on tv was truely awsome.

1.Roger Waters-In The Flesh Live *****{Roger is a fanatic with production}
2.Roxy Music-Live At The Apollo *****{ Brian just got better like a bottle of wine}
3.Abba-The Winner Takes All ** only because I grew up with this band and she gave me bad dreams[the blonde]

Great, I have just bought a copy of Roger Waters - In The Flesh Live. Gave it a quick whirl and I really like what I have seen and heard so far. The way I judge a good music dvd is by whether it gives me goose pimples when I put it on. The PQ is especially good for a live performance coupled with that great sound. I must say this Roger Waters is really goose pimply...

Since I have not viewed the Roger Waters completely yet, right now, I would choose the following 3 dvds from my collection:

a. The Corrs - Unplugged
b. Meatloaf - Storyteller
c. Cyndi Lauper - Live At Last

I chose the above because I love all the songs plus they are very well made dvd with good PQ and SQ.

Cheers.

A couple of posters have mentioned Eagles' Hell Freezes Over DVD as one of their top picks -- FWIW, EzyDVD have it on special for pre-purchase at the moment for $19.83, for delivery after 16th March.

Based on the recommendations here, I think I might order that along with Roger Waters' In the Flesh; thanks for the tips, guys.

Laurie,

I agree the with both 1 & 2 as I also have them both, if you have a SACD player the SACD of Roxy Music - Avalon is a fantastic mix for an old recording.

Isn't it amazing how varied some people’s tastes are with music?

Very true spearmint you either love it or hate it I'm surprised most here have similar tastes  :P  but what pi$$es me off is that video shops don't have music dvd for rental at least not in my area I asked many times only to be told "They[Mr & Mrs Sixpack] want action movies"

ps another thing about music dvd I noticed is that anything below 65dB is hopeless it seems the content  is best @75dB + I have pushed it beyond 85dB and my ears gave up before any form of distortion set in  :P
