I bought "TOTO - Live in Amsterdam" today

From the back cover Captured in Hi-Definition Video - features 5.1 & DTS Surround.

This DVD is brilliant IMO the video is superb, and the audio is very good.

DD 448Kbps & DTS 1536Kbps there you have it full bitrate audio.

Not much use of the surround channels and the sound appears like it is compressed at times lacking dynamics otherwise a must IMO for music fans.

This now sits along with:

The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over (R1) as R4 version has terrible mix
ELO - Zoom
Eric Clapton – Live in Hyde Park
Eric Clapton – Crossroads Guitar Festival
Bon Jovi – This Left Feels Right
Carl Perkins & Friends – Blue Suede Shoes
Fleetwood Mac – The Dance
Roy Orbison – Black & White
Tommy James & The Shondels – Live at The Bitter End
The Doobie Brothers – Rockin’ Down The Highway (The Wildlife Concert)
The Doobie Brothers - Live At Wolf Trap
Randy Travis – Live
Queen – Live at Wembley Stadium
The Moody Blues – Hall of Fame
George Thorogood – 30th Anniversary Tour: Live

These are in no particular order just live performances where I like both performance and the audio mixes.

JB have 3x TOTO titles on the shelf, the reason I picked this one was because of the DTS Audio & Hi Def Video as listed on the cover.

BTW The concert is also very good.

Peter Gabriel - PLAY "The Hits". Video quality varies from average (older vids) to incredible. Audio however is one of the first to feature a DTS 96/24 soundtrack.

this is my little collection:

Babyface - collection of hit videos
The corrs - lave at landsdown road
The corrs live in London
India arie - live in brazil
Bjorj Vespertine live at royal opera house
Bjork live at mtv unplugged
Bjork Volumen
Morcheeba brixton to beijing
Nitin sawhney - prophesy
Norah jones - live in new orleans
Norah jones  - the handsome band live in 2004
Tina Arena greatest hits 1994-2004
Ladies and Gentlemen - the best of george michael
Mariah 1#s
Lisa Stansfield - biograph
M people one night in heaven
Glenn cambell in concert
Simply Red greatest hits
Jamiroquai live in Verona
Moby play
A tribute to Burt Bacharach + Hal David
Legend the best of Bob Marley & the wailers
Sade Lovers Live

Its a bit of a mix as I like a bit of a mix of different musical styles. There a lot of my favourites in there.

some I particularly like are:

babyface.... just for the music.

the corrs ones are pretty good as concerts and not just because I think the bandmembers are cute !

Morcheeba's brixton to beijing is very very good - the best concert I've seen or heard on dvd. check out my little rave on it here.

Nitin sawhney - prophesy
now this is very very good. this is just pictures added to his very excellent CD. great soundstage, dynamics and quite a work out for any system. You got to like this type of music though - so have a listen before buying. I've got this on cd first, dvd next and all because I heard it on lp to start with and my jaw dropped/ Still looking for the lp - any hints guys ? oh and next natural step I went to see him live when he was out to melbourne and played at the forum with his band and co-singers, that was trully quite a blast!.

M people one night in heaven
is pretty good for a concert. she sure knows how to get the crowd going. Saw her live at the after party for the 1996 first melbourne granprix. She is quite a performer.

Sade Lovers live
Now this is also a very good concert. I'm bit of a sade fan. But she and her band are very good in this and just like the morcheeba dvd it puts you right in the concert audeince. I have all the sade albums on cd and on lp too so never considered ever buying any of her dvds. I found this particualr one lying at the side of the road bike riding one day. Its all scratched and chipped and amazingly plays in my denon 2900. Guess someone elses loss was my gain here but jees I love this dvd.

ok now wheres that abba greatest hits or kylie greatest hits dvds hehehe.....

must say both the peter gabeil and toto ones sound good ...might check em out today.

Wow great list there Alebonau...

This was part of the reason for the post to give others (and myself) ideas of what are some of the good/great live music DVD's currently around.

Trouble is I also have some disappointments in my collection, and because you can't try before you buy you either take pot luck or try and find someone else that has them.

yes great idea spearmint.

yes unfortunately I got he odd bit of dissapointment in there too, because of the reason you mentioned.

One of the things I'm trying to do - not very sucessfully, is buy s/h from the likes of dixons recycled etc. working great for lps & cds but not so great for dvds so far. these guys are good as will let you listen/hear before buying. but really none of its going to get a decent listen till you get it home is it !.

so yes great idea - post away guys to what music dvds you found to be pretty great !.

If you are thinking of pointing your browser in the direction of R1, try Criterion's The Complete Monterey Pop Festival and Gimme Shelter,

Also try the Last Waltz.

Hey Guys,

Great feedback here, it has certainly given me some thoughts on what to buy next.

BTW my list is not all that I have only those that I believe are good live concerts with great audio.

Most of mine I bring in from the US if they are recorded in the US purely because of the 4% speed up if they don't remix the audio when converting to pal.

For instance I have “Music for Montserrat” R1 release with DD & DTS audio the R4 release only has DD, the trouble is fantastic concert which I play quite often but crappy audio IMO.

Thanks for all the feedback guys; I have added a couple to my must haves. This is exactly what I had in mind when I started this thread, as we all know it doesn't take long before the $ start to add up when buying DVD's, and nothing worse than buying a DUD.
Laurie,

Really appreciate the star rating, I realise some of them are subjective; at least it gives me a couple I will check out.

ELO-Zoom**

I would give that ***** for audio & concert status, although the video is a little poor. Still it also depends on whether you like ELO as well.

Music For Montserrat ****

Good rating IMO, I have the R1 DTS version, and although the concert is fantastic the audio can be a little problematic at times with feedback and ac hum.
