Hi,

I found this on eBay:

Quote

Topfield TFT6000 1tb New Flagship Model Web BROWSING Home Media Sharing Quad Rec

http://www.ebay.com....=item20d3f86988

I can't see all of the eBay page due to restrictions here at work (apparently they expect us to do non internet based work).

Interesting if true, looks like a 2400 series from the picture. Nothing on iTopfield or Korean site.

Definitely a new flagship drdos7 .;extra logos on the box for a web browser with a keyboard ; network interface module[ more intuitive hopefully than a 2400] :pinch:   Improved the file codec playback too by the look - xvid mp4 mpeg etc and media playback to smart phones etc

Caught up with other brands in some things that may not be needed by some .

I wonder if it's even an Australian model. MPEG4 ??????????

Anyway, no IceTV either so it's already a loser.

I just love that they still use that expression. One of those terms that didn't translate well a decade ago but seems to have stuck none the less.

MPEG4?
Just about any TV related device released these days in Oz has MPEG4 capability. In a decade or so there will be another digital switchover but this time 90% of the population will already have the equipment needed to receive the new standard.

But I agree, this product isn't much different from the one its replacing. But its a bit more polished and there's only so much anyone really wants a PVR to do (does anyone really surf the web on their TV these days?). Price wise you can get a great media player with twin tuner PVR built in for about $200 less but the Toppy is puts its emphasis on being a PVR first and it does this well.

It seems to cover everything a PVR can do apart from plain live TV watching and plain recording watching. FF, REW, skip, pause and so on. I guess whatever it was translated from made more sense. Beyonwiz has used the phrase, too.

It is not clear what hardware is underneath. Given the 1080p support it probably has the same processor as the 2100. As the 2100 does not have TAP support, it is doubtful that this model has it. It probably has the file misnaming problems that are common with Toppys, particularly when using IR. If it runs the same sort of firmware as the 2100, then media playback support is probably badly broken.

The only 'new' feature likely to be of any use is the iPhone/iPad RCU. This is also supported by the European 5000 (same hardware as the 2100 + Ethernet) and the 7260 (you can get the manual and firmware for this model from the Korean Topfield site ... it apears to be designed for Australia but has not been released here as far as I know).

I spoke to Toppro technical support and they say that these machines are not imported by Toppro. However, the impression I got was that there is indeed such a machine but it is not available in Australia through the Topfield's authorised supply chain.

Looking at the box on eBay it has the a www address which is owned by Toppro on it, www.itopfield.com.au which would suggest that (1) it is designed for Australia (I was told these machines would not work in Australia) and (2) is imported by Toppro.

Well, I just more confused than I was before I contacted Toppro.

I saw this on Ebay and rang Topfield Tech Support. Guy confirmed that it is coming out "soon" but has not been placed on their website. Said there were 3 new model being release.

My two 7100 HDPVRT have both died at the same time. Cannot access anything from the remote to do a re set. Looking at purchasing a TRF 2400 from their refurbished shop for $300.

A 2400 at that price is a good deal. The 2400/2460 are the still the top of the range Topfield PVRs. You can add a 1TB drive if you like to bring it up to the specs of the 2460 but 500GB is still plenty.

Hi,

The TRF7170 @ $250 appears good value as well, unless you must have IceTV.

there are other differences... AV input recording, an extra USB port, and I believe the 7170 does not support Home Media (DLNA)
