We moved into our house about 2 years ago.  It has a Sanyo projector.  This is my first experience with a projector.

The house is approx 8 years old.  I don't know when the projector was installed.

I don't have an instruction manual.  I can't find a model number of anything on it (it must be on the side that is affixed to the ceiling).

Over the past 6 months or so it has been occasionally turning off.  We suspected as it was occurring during summer it must be overheating.  There is an aircon near it so we had the aircon on during summer to keep it cool in case that was the problem.  It kept turning off occasionally hHowever, over the past week or so it has become more frequent.  Today it was only on for about 2 mins before it turned off.  It then would only last about 2 mins each time we restarted it.  As it was cool inside and it had barely been on it can't be that it is overheating.

From my googling, I wonder if it could be caused by the lamp needing replacement?

Does it sound like something that it would be worth calling a tech out for?  I don't want to pay a service call if the entire projector needs replacement, but I can't afford a replacement  .

Any recommendations in Melbourne (northern suburbs)?

Thank you in advance

Can you access any info via menus?

How many hours the lamp has on it in a pretty basic measure you should be able to see.

If it is overheating it could be the filters need cleaning or replacing.

The lamp has 3994 hours.  Also, the light beside the words 'lamp replace' is orange.  So I guess the lamp may need replacement?

Is this something we could do ourselves or since we are so clueless, should I get someone out for it?

LOL!  Yep the lamp has pretty much seen it;s end of life.

Hmmm ... not having any idea of the model, you should be able to do it yourself ... some are easier than others to replace whilst installed.

Given what you have provided to date it might be best to take it into a professional who can give it a clean and service as well,

Could you see anything in the menu that points to the model ... this might help identify someone here who has experience with it.  If you were to replace it yourself you would need to know this to order a replacement lamp.

I guess you don't know if it is LCD or DLP?

I have two Sanyo projectors, a Sanyo Z2 and a Sanyo Z4 and also a Epson TW 5500.

The Sanyo's just refused to die. To identify what model you have do a 'Google'
for instance............a Sanyo Z2 user Manual

http://www.gbhall.pw...co.uk/sm-z2.pdf

If it is a Sanyo Z4 ..............

Free User Manuals are available on-line as a .PDF,   just 'Google'

Awesome, thanks guys.

I've worked out it is a Sanyo Z5 and I've tracked down the user manual.

The lamp model number is POA-LMP94.  Since sayno no longer exists, I assume it is OK to buy a generic?  I've found one on ebay - http://www.ebay.com....tem4cfa02ee67   Will this be OK?

Thanks again.  You've been a lifesaver. :phone:  We only have 1 foxtel connection in the house and it is connected to the projector so the teenage boys have been complaining like you wouldn't believe (but left it to me, the female  who never watches the thing, to fix  )

Great, thanks.  Didn't realise genuine would be an option.  Just purchased the genuine option.  It obviously lasted well (4000 hrs!) so I'd prefer to go genuine again.  Thanks :)

no worries ... just make sure you follow the instructions if you do it yourself and don't let any fingers get near the globe .... I use disposable latex gloves just to be sure.

My dealings with 'Just Projectors' over the supply of a new lamp for my Sanyo Z4 ( the Z5 is just an updated Z4 and uses same lamp) was not a happy one.
After 3 months of B.S delay tactics from 'Micheal' I insisted in getting my money back, which I did from another sales person. That was about two and a half years ago. The next day I got one for about $400 from another supplier within 24 hours. Personally, I would not recommend 'Just Projectors' as a supplier. No offense intended Chops, it was just one bad experience I had on-line

'Projectisle.com.au' gave me excellent service for the price.......

Look at this site first before you decide. I have no affiliations with them whatsoever but only wish you get what you paid for promptly.

Anyway, the Z4/Z5 was a great projector in its day when 720p dominated in the market place 7 yeears ago. Enjoy.

I've pmed her ... Hopefully she hasn't ordered from that other place! Bugga! I should have double checked and it didn't ring alarm bells until you warned us.

Looks like she has ... Cancelation or chargeback is the go if they are as bad as you experienced.

There should be no problem canceling your order if they hassle you do a credit card charge back.

They have been in business for a long while, so CMs experiences might not be the same for you, but I would cancel and go the other one.

It's not marked with an X on their website so should be cancelable going by the product details.
