My copy from Amazon US hasn't moved since DHL picked it up on 8 May - looks like it's been pinched by one of their employees.  Will follow up with Amazon for a replacement after the scheduled delivery date.

Sigh, it's not like DHL actually delivers much on time anyway...

I labored over whether "to" or "to not", but was put off by the reviews and decided to wait for the complaints to roll in and for a full remaster in the future. I can wait

I think unless the studios think it will be a big seller, they possibly set the encoder on auto settings and let it do it's thing.......shame really...but that's biz I suppose.

Unfortunately, all the reviews I've read have been by people that are new to the movie and haven't seen it theatrically or on previous releases.  Therefore, I've found the basis for judgement to be slightly skewed.

Technically, from what I've read it was a 4K(?) transfer from the original film elements, so it should be good.  Certainly better than any previous transfer anyway.

Great film - go for it.

we just finished watching earlier. wow long movie ! 2 hours 52 min !

look I think if you are a fan its the kind of movie you will just watch and enjoy ! my wife is humming the tune of it in the background now hehe

if you look you will see it aint no lawrence of arabia in way its mastered. not sure where 4K comes into it. I have seen DVDs look better. this is typical I'd say of an old film and keep in mind this film is 50 ! yes 50 years old and probably looks great given that. but yeah nothing special to the eye but acceptable I would say. the bond restorations on dvd looked better. so not sure does any justice to blu-ray at all. audio wise I cant fault it. that side of it is well done. again keeping in mind how old this film is.

some quick screen shots,

this is about as bad as it looks,

There seems to be some conjecture over whether this was mastered from a 2004 restoration that was done in "HD" for the DVD release, or a later 4K transfer.  Ref here:

Personally, I prefer older films like this to be a bit softer - I think it works with the period of the movie and is a bit like old B/W movies that have been cleaned up too much and sometimes coloured, they just don't seem 'right' to me... :)

To me, it's a great rainy Sunday afternoon movie that you can get swept up in to, soft or not.  I always enjoy it!

Cheers
