Just check that roll surrounds show no sign of deterioration.

Agree, MY preference would be Whatmough, but you need to decide what YOUR preference is...

Cheers,

Picked up some whatmough's, they sound very clear, almost like all the instruments are distinct
In all honesty after listening to the whatmough speakers and comparing to the aarons, everyone at home prefer the aarons
I dont know how to describe it properly, the aarons seem to blend the music( instruments) together more which makes it more enjoyable, almost like listening to heavy metal and a choir, one is in your face while the other is just sublime
while the whatmough you can hear the higher sounds like symbols more distinctly, which is good for classical instrumental music, but for general listening with instruments and voices this becomes so fatiguing
its unpleasant, you can listen to a piece of music with the whatmough and hear distinct instruments louder than you would with the aarons, you can hear everything with the aarons but almost like they blended in with the music
i could play one track with the whatmough and think ok we will try another track, but with the aarons you could play it over and over and enjoy everything you throw at them, while the whatmough you are looking for something that compliments speaker with music your playing
after everything i have read about these speakers i was getting ready to be blown away, ended up disappointed, maybe my ears prefer a more laid back speaker
the whatmough will be getting sold, and ill look at getting some more aarons
i dont know why people class aarons as second rate speakers for my ears they are extremely good

In the end your ears are all that's important. I almost bought some Whatmoughs last year, and my old man has some. I'd never call them fatiguing but maybe combined with your system the Aaron's simply integrate better.

The old Aaron's from about 8-10 years ago were pretty basic budget stuff. Cheapest Aussieade speakers of some quality. I think have come a long way. I have heard some good things on their latest designs.

Re whatmough. No not laid back. Pretty neutral. As with any speakers important to demo to make sure it's what looking for :) without demoing can be pot luck. All sorts of speakers out there if different sound charecter. Worth getting a feel for kind of sound looking for and which brands sound takes your fancy :)
