About 40 or so invited guests collected at Audio Trends Ringwood to see the latest high end gear from UK maker NAIM.

Using a Naim amp and an older and current power supply they demonstrated the improvement in sound on their gear got from using their proprietary power cable called Power Line mains cable,, yes it did make a difference. One of these cables was the give away prize for the night.

A lot of the attendees were interested in their new UnitiLite,  UnitiQute & UnitiServe -SSD Hard Disk Players/Servers. We asked many questions and learnt that these devices are designed to rip stereo CD's into WAV files and save them onto either the built in 2TB HD or on the former model a separate drive of your choice, apparently about 2500 CD's worth! The machines can also double as players and can also stream their ripped files over two channels to an amp. SACD Hybrid discs rip only the CD product layer ATM so you cannot get the SACD stereo tracks ripped. These streamers only send out their own content so no good for streaming downloaded products. no video capability either.

They demonstrated the sound using the same reference material in mp3 rip  from iTunes,  DB Power Amp media files, Itunes ripped WAV files and the ripped product from their player playing WAV files; detail from their ripped WAV files was clearly better and much more detailed.
The Naim streamers don't come with remotes (can be brought if necessary as an extra) instead preferring to supply an apple product compatible app, other brands of phone apps aren't yet catered for.Wifi and cable are both supported but they prefer cabled steaming, no video out for separate displays of Metafile data either.

NAIM Staff in attendance made it very clear and proved that if you don't save your music in .WAV format anything less is just a loss you won't get back. They also claim that their ripping process will be every bit as good if not better then the original CD due to their patented software ripping and quality hardware. It does sound good indeed.

For more data and specs go here

Met Up with Mr Happypants and shared a pie or two as well as some nice red.

Thanks to Mark, Nick & co at Audio Trends and also Naim for the high quality CD given to each attendee, nice gear nice people.

Sounded like a good night. Any idea of the cost for the Power Line mains cable? I know the price will be different depending on length, but there's no price on their website and it's not listed on Audio Trends website under Naim products.

In addition to their fine players amps etc, Naim also get involved in high quality CD production and offer you the chance to sample and or buy their productions at relatively low cost to see their catalogue please go here. There's few freebies in  there too. Happy listening :)
