Yes, you can copy small files like TAPs. I had this problem when setting up my mother-in-law's 2470 .... I could not copy recordings to it but I could copy TAPs and download TAPs by TAPtoDate. I have no problem copying files from the Toppy to my PC.

Has anyone got the latest firmware for the 7100hdpvrt. My parents is playing up, So I thought first thing i'd try is to update the firmware, but of course the website is down and haven't been able to find firmware anywhere.  That said if anyone also knows why they'd get pixelation etc when recording 2 shows i'd appreciate any advice :-)

Pixelation is usually a sign of poor reception. It may be worth while checking the connections on the feed from the antenna.

Yeah the only problem is it happens only when recording 2 channels at once.  And its only started to happen in the last couple of weeks. But yeah i'll check the connectors etc in case they've been bumped, I'm pretty certain that are just standard connectors and not F connectors.

When I had pixelation on my setup it was the connectors and i replaced everything with new coax and connectors. But it happened regardless of whether I was recording or not.

I also wouldn't be surprised to find a blown capacitor inside, on my Beyonwiz a few of those caused some weird problems, while essentially working most of the time :-)

Anyway I will start with the firmware if i can download it and go from there.

Does it happen on both recordings? If so, does it happen at the same time in both recordings?

Good question. I'll probably have to go and take a  look at it. My parents know how to record stuff, it may not even be pixelation :-) although i'm sure its some picture defect.

The latest 7100HDPVRt firmware I have is below.

https://dl.dropboxus...172/1.00.51.upd

Depending on how old the 'existing' firmware is, it may require a HDD reformatting.

Ian

I see that the Toppro/Topfield Australia www site is still diverting to Korea. The owner of www.topfield.com.au is still Toppro.

Hi guys
Interestingly I managed to do a network firmware upgrade the other night - thought I would try it on a whim, and to my surprise the standard topfield-europe.com site connected and downloaded.  Anyway, it doesn't ask you what version you want, it just goes straight to Jan2013 - this seems to be working well however so all good! I had been on some old version for a long time due to trying more updated versions (2011/early 2012) which had a lot of bugs, missed recordings etc.  My IceTV had been playing up (loading EPG but not getting recordings) but ever since I went to the new firmware it has been working like a dream (**crosses fingers**)

So, if you are looking for new firmware and your device is net connected, give the network upgrade a try.
cheers

The update server is very basic. First it looks at the System ID, then compares the firmware version installed with the latest version on the server. It does not tell you which version it is. It would be good if it listed all stable versions and allowed you to download the one you wish to install.

The Jan 13 firmware still has the USB rebooting bug and I have had problems with the Toppy freezing when doing transfers of large files.

Yep, that was my experience.

Re the Jan 2013 bugs - never use the USB slots on my machine, and don't usually copy anything to it either (have a separate media player for that), so pretty happy with it so far (although it did seem to freeze when I was copying a bunch of my kids shows off for archiving the other day - not sure if this was just a random thing or not.....). Main thing is that IceTV seems to be working perfectly, so that Mrs Berlinchair is no longer kicking my ass because shows weren't recording!!

A call to the topfield techs suggested that the PSU is indeed failing. most likely some blown capacitors, which is common in beyonwiz as well :-)

Yes, the power supplies with older Toppys are problematic. They are much more reliable for the TMS Toppys (7100+, 7160, 7170, 2400, 2460 and 2470). My 2400 is over three and a half years old, and not power supply issues. I had to replace the power supply on both my 5000 Masterpiece and 7100HDPVRt.

My Toppy 5000 runs MUCH hotter than my 2400. I reckon this is the reason the new power supplies are kinder on capacitors.

Since our local Toppy info source is AWOL and other sites are now thin on the ground or foreign, can anyone confirm that there's not a SmartEPG TAP for Australian 5000 models? A rough browse of a German site suggests there may be a European 5000 version, but if the TMS version is anything to go by, SmartEPG is fairly model/location sensitive.

Hi WingNut!

I too am sure that there was an earlier version of SE for the non TMS Topfields. in Europe. Perhaps Firebird may be able to help with advice on whether that version would run on ours.

However there is a TAP for the 5000 called 3PG which had many of the features of SE like word searches for timers etc. I ran that on my 5000MP until I retired it. I have a copy of it and the English Guide somewhere here.
Cheers
Mike

Hi,

We have been using EPG Navigator on our 2 Toppy 5000s. Along with UK Auto Scheduler it does pretty much what SmartEPG does.

It'd be for installing on Mrs Wing Nut's old Toppy 5000 under her TV, so it has to be fairly foolproof. She presently uses the TV guide out of the local weekly rag - annoys me no end since I find SE so easy to use on the Toppy 2400 under 'my' TV. Still be an uphill struggle getting her to use a 5000 version, but if I set it up for her maybe she'd use it ... big maybe, though.

Hi,

My wife is fairly resistant to change. Took me a year or 5 to get her to change to EPG Navigator. I doubt she'd go back to the Toppy one now. I found UKAS invaluable on my 5000, my wife still insists on manually setting her timers. I did use UKAS on hers while we were away on holidays though, didn't miss a show that she wanted. I use SmartEPG on my new 2470. I'm trying to convert her to a 2470. I couldn't have a PVR without the auto timers setting search function. Toppy IR sucks the big one!! My son's missus gets pissed off when they add *NEW* or some other **** and she misses her shows. I must install SE on her's soon too, now that I've had good experience with mine. I used the Windows Media Centre version of auto search for about 4 years.

Only problem with putting UKAS on her 5000, rather than SmartEPG, is that I'd have to set it up and learn how to use it myself first.  And if I didn't do it right and she missed recording some silly show, then a very unsettling calm would descend over the house for quite some time :(
