You should be able to land one of these from offshore for around AUD3750.
And I would not hesitate, forget about the Panasonic. This is another level. Set it on "Reference" mode and forget about any further calibration unless you are totally addicted to fiddling.

why bother landing from offshore when can likely pick that up for pretty the same locally ? offshore purchase on a projector I wouldnt personally recommend. you really need the warranty on them and helps quite a bit if end up with niggly issues to be dealing with it locally. projectors often do end up landing DOA so even in that instance a local warranty is very helpfull. then thres consumer protection when buying locally, with newer stronger consumer laws I wouldnt buy something like a projector from overseas because of local protection we get instead.
definitely out of box from what have read the sony seems pretty spot on. with bonus if wanting to calibrate a full cms is there if needed

finally found a proper sony calculator
http://pro.sony.com/...jector_sim.html
but doesnt have the 50es ! has the 30 and the 90/95es. neither of which by looks would fit in my setup. but surprisingly looks like sony have a more flexible lens setup in the 1000es and would actually fit in my room / setup
not that could afford one hehe
