It was good to see the England V Australia one day international on GEM last night. Pity the average birate was 7.74 mbps MPEG2 LOL
That's just under half the image quality of the same game being shown on Fox Sports HD.

Will the Olympics be simulcast on 9 and GEM or will there be different transmissions on each? Either way the PQ will almost certainly be very poor.

I did a comparison last night on the cricket. ( didn't know it was on gem!)
Surfing the FTA channels then the cricket on gem looked ok. But, when I went to fox sports 3 it was like chalk and cheese! The pixalation of the image on gem when there was any movement was unbearable. It looked very nice on fox, as the cricket usually does.
I don't hold out much hope of the Olympic games looking any good on gem, in comparison to Fox. Mite look ok if you have nothing to compare it to!

The PQ on Gem for the cricket is perfectly watchable. Perhaps not as good as can be expected from a HD channel but not shabby for free.. It certainly beats sport shown on SBS 2 and even the LFC games on One HD are pretty poor (although the latter is probably due to the quality of the material released, I am guessing; the Arse's tv output is much higher quality).

I agree with you entirely.
At least nine are making an effort to show some HD sport on occasion within their limits.

Making an effort? They've teased their audience with HD for the first two games and now for game 3 they are showing it on the main channel in SD. LOL LOL
What a joke.
PS. Why is it that GEM show the cricket with a 5.1 448kbps audio track and yet Fox Sports don't!

Ditto!
9 (and for that matter 7 and 10 also) are a joke!

Well, the fourth ODI was completely different in terms of PQ to the first two games. Not unwatchable but far below the standards initially set by nine. Apparently, the channel has altered its bit rate bandwidth among its fta channels, increasing the ad' channel rates at the expense of Gem. For many programmes this is not a big issue; for sport it is, and sport is supposed to be C9's big thing. Apparently. Or maybe it is the ad channels that are the big thing...
I am not often dissatisfied with TV coverage, but C9 have certainly shot themselves in the foot here, I think.
