It's been a swell time, but the swelling has gone down and I need to find something else that will help renew the swelling.

I have a 110" screen in a light controlled room with a celing mount that is ~4m back from the screen.

My budget is around $5k, give or take.

I'm primarily using my setup for movies (or TV shows) and games, not so much FTA TV or sports, but I do generally get a few hours use every day.

One of my suppliers has offered me a Dream Vision Inti+ 2 at a pretty good price, but I'm a bit out of the loop in regards to what is out there so I have no idea how it stacks up to some of the usual contendors (JVC/Mitsubishi, even Epson etc).

I'd like to get something sooner rather than later :)

Any suggestions?

Thanks gang :)

See the Epson 9000 GB thread. Still on I believe and a great PJ.

It would be well under your budget; or you could consider the JVC X30 which is closer to your budget.

I don't really know much about PJ's in that price range (but did have a TW 1000 myself in years gone bye-very nice...) however noticed that you mentioned you intend to use it for gaming.  I thought I would mention that people are starting to think about input lag on PJ's for gaming.  I suppose it would depend on how much of a gamer you are and the type of games you play, but may be worth keeping in mind when making your decision.  Some basic comparisons are provided here:-

good luck with the new PJ, whatever it is.

Pretty much just console gaming, non competitive. I haven't had any issues with input lag so far - either that or I just unconsciously compensate for it ;)

I guess the TW9000 as good value for money now as the TW2000 was back in the day...
What would I need to consider to notice a significant step up from there?

I'm not one to spend the extra cash just because something is more expensive, but if there's a significant enough difference between the TW9000 and say a $6k offering I might consider it.

OTOH, if the TW9000 is really that good I'll just grab one :)

Thanks for the help so far.

plenty of owner feedback on the 9000 in the owners thread. and at GB pricing it is hard to look past. I think youd be very pleased, but try check it out as with the other options to decide.

If you value high contrast ratio and the image quality it provides the JVC X30 is the only option in the price range.

Snufkin, if possible I would check out some of the suggestions and compare for yourself. I wouldn't accept anyone's opinion as fact, no matter how definitive, earnest and forthright they're stated.

Seeing is believing as they say. Otherwise yes just basing a purchase on someone else opinion :)

Snufkin, since you already have a projector and are familiar with the performance of the one you have I suggest you have a think about what aspects of performance you want to improve on and investigate projectors that are known to address those performance limitations.

Unfortunately showroom demos are of little value as there are too many variables affecting what you see, setup differences will typically dominate. After calibration good projectors tend to look very similar in most ways, the differences tend to come down to the underlying technology (LCD, DLP, LCoS) and factors like the use of dynamic iris systems or not.
Input lag for gaming can vary quite a bit and will also be affected by motion smoothing systems.

The Dream Vision Inti+ 2 is identical internally to the JVC X70/RS55, just different cosmetics..........if you are getting it within your budget ...GRAB IT!!!

That's interesting, never heard of Dream Vision but if they sell an X70 clone for $5k or less its very good value and hard to go past.

Snufkin, I would still suggest going and seeing the projectors in the store if you can.  You won't be able to compare them down to the nth degree but you'll get some idea.  You'll also be able to interact with the human beings who use them, sell them and sometimes see them come back in for repair or return.  That may be useful.

I found it pretty usefull myself checking out in person. Infact it was actually viewing in real world conditions that was decider in getting my previous projector.

By looking at the manufacturer fact sheets, Dream Vision INTI projector are indeed rebadged JVCs but they are more expensive than the equivalent JVC models. INTI 1+ is like X30 but its rrp is $8695 which is $3000 higher than a X30,  INTI 2+ is like X70 but with a price tag of $13xxxx again much higher price than X70.  I can't see you getting a massive discount that will move these projectors close to $5000 unless the company selling them is going under.

If that unit is the same I saw back in 2010, it is made by REAL D and will require the use of a silver screen to keep the light polarized.
My local D-Cinemas are fitted out with REAL D also have a device like this installed on a manual slide in front of their projectors.

It looks like a silver screen that isnt the best for 3d has been gotten around :shifty:

Quote

5D screens

Dreamvision introduces a new screen fabric, the Passive 5D screens. Thanks to a special coating, this cloth eliminates the hot spots frequently observed on traditional silver screens and optimizes the 3D effects. Put shortly, it is optimized for passive 3D projection as well as 2D projection.

Hopefully another ce webbsy..

Turn four screws, plug and play… Everything has been set in the Dreamvision laboratory

Good find HJ. I'm sure we'll see many clones of this sort of thing soon enough - An extra lens that's built in to the PJ to slide in and out as required!
