Hi, I have been using a Benq MP515 for the past 3 years (very dusty inside now) on its second bulb. A member from this website told me how Benq have an issue with their lenses, for example I just purchased a Benq W710ST (in table mode) the bottom left and top right projected image can never be crisp and sharp as one another, meaning one side can be sharp and the other out of focus. When you try to balance both sections of the screen it is just out of focus... To me, for a HD projector this is kind of deafeating, having to sacrafice sharpness for one side of the screen for the other. I'm not sure if anyone else has ever had this issue with a Benq projector before because with my old MP515 I had the exact same issue with the manual focus. The centre part of the screen and top left and bottom right were very sharp except for the opposite diagonal parts of the screen. With the W710ST I found a scratch on one part of the lense but I'm certain a scratch would not relate to the focus problem.... Im taking this one back but was thinking of purchasing the W1060 instead in an attempt to see if 1080p HD will compensate for the focus issue and if someone that owns a W1060, if they have encountered the same issue on their unit.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Maybe this topic will make Benq sit up and take notice.
Thanks

Look hard enough at most HT projectors (particularly since they became affordable) and I think you'll find they have some cost compromises in the lens assembly - I haven't seen one <$10K without some mild uneven focus and/or chromatic aberration when up close. Three element projectors (LCD and DILA type) can also have convergence issues. The real test is whether you can see the effects from a normal viewing position.
Your W710ST is a $1K ultra short throw projector in the crossover office/gaming/HT space. The ultra short throw is always going to be a big test of optics. How about posting some decent pictures showing the unevenness in focus. However, the scratch on the lens is not acceptable and grounds for returning it as a DOA.
The throw ratio on a W1060 isn't anywhere as aggressive, so won't emphasise lens compromises as much, albeit it's still a crossover gaming/HT projector.
