Hi all,
Just recently I came across an ad on Gumtree, For sale was an old jvc system with 4 speakers, no pictures, that's it.
Went to investigate, and what i found was quite something.
The system is from the 70's i believe, consists of:
JVC 4VR-5436X Fm-Am 4 Channel Stereo Receiver with built in CD-4 Demodulator (Quadraphonic) - http://www.thevintag...vc-4VR5436.html
JVC SK-12 4 Way 6 speaker boxes with wood lattice - pair
JVC VS-5399 Bi-directional rear speakers - pair - http://www.thevintag...vc-VS-5399.html
A woman was selling it, i don't think she realised what she was selling. All she wanted was $20!!!!!!!!!! SOLD
All the pieces are in fantastic, original condition, and the receiver works beautifully. The SK-12's are unbelievable for something from the 70's!
Does anyone know what the REAL resale value of this system is?
Thanks

I have no idea what the system might sound like in the flesh but the speakers look impressive.
Please keep us updated when you get this in your home, let us know what you think. Also, post some images of the speakers as they look now.

Also, ive noticed that two of the bulbs that light up the display (mainly the aerial tuning and signal strength) have blown. They are little fuse shaped globes that are rated 12.6v 0.3a. Anyone know where to get them in Adelaide?

Is there a part number or something? Some old cars have globes that look like fuses, maybe can try there? Or bring it over to jaycar (or a similar shop)...

Matt,
it's rubbish.
I'll give $50 and save you the trip to the tip.
I will even pick it up and i live in Melb

I think you should keep it.
Hunt around for some quad vinyl.
Paul.

Hi Matt ;wow every jvc receiver used to have the ''exclusive'' sea 5 band equaliser ; no bass/treble only here
If you hunt for platters make sure their the jvc backed variant not the opposition
Too many conflicting formats - one reason quad flopped..

Love the surround speakers ; jvc ripoff of famous in the 70's allison speakers

JVC used to make some nice stuff. The speakers might be nice in a modern system assuming the cones are alright but doubt if the receiver is anything more than average for the period.
