This hasn't happened to me before (the Oppo letting me down) and I am reluctant to update firmware just for one disc. I put the disc into my aging Pioneer BR player and no problems at all. George Clooney is getting on in age in HD goodness...
Has anyone had the same problem with this disc - or should I refresh my cache or upgrade the firmware? Anyone?

I had no problems playing the US version of The American on my 95 with the Dec 2011 firmware. Is your disc a local release?

Yes local release and presume unlocked as I didn't get the "wrong region" slide. It goes right through to the menu and then stalls

Clear the BD live memory.
If you've got BD live turned on, turn it off (or vice versa).
Let us know how you go.

I played a rental BD on my 93 without issues late last year.

... depending on the American in question, this may not be a bad thing at all.

I have spent more time now with this - I had BD-Live on, switched it off, deleted my memory which was only 1MB out of 956MB available, tried using the next/up chapter button, tried jumping ahead to the top menu whilst loading. It is the local version and listed as ALL Region. I am over it..... the movie was OK but not brilliant anyway... Thanks for the suggestions, cheers, MIke

I actually thought it was a brilliant movie... but each to their own. Maybe just a bad disc/player match, as I said I had no issue with a rental copy late last year with what was then current firmware. Is this title known to have issues that firmware fixes?
