So ive been playing with one of those cheap Satlink meters ive borrowed of a mate. Thing is I cant get the bastard to tune all the local terrestrial stations. Only one multiplex comes up? Ive tested this at my own place as well and I know it has great reception (which my proper meter and tv/pvr/vcr also agree), as well as onsite. Ive done both auto-tunes and manual tuning of the stations, including manually typing in the 125khz offsets!. And Ive done a reset on the unit too.

Is there a firmware upgrade (couldnt find any on satlink's site), or have I set something wrong (I doubt, as I can watch one multiplex just fine). Any help would be appreciated. :)

Don't know anything about these.

There's a 'software' link on the Australian website, but all it has is the manual and 'CD content' which I assume has the software, but not sure about individual firmware upgrades.

You may have already seen it, but here's the link to the page.... select the model.

Yeah I'd seen that, It has Satellite listings for various regions, the manual in pdf form, and some software which I assume is to create your own satellite listing (Cant be bothered to install WINE (I run Linux) - just to run one app). From what I understand via the manual, is the firmware is just a file you put on a usb and load via the unit's USB port using the appropriate menu selection (or in other words its a USB host).

I went through a similar issue with a Telemann, only I couldn't get any channels to lock :-(. I ended up sending it back to the guy I purchased it from.

With the Channel that locks, does it report good quality signal? Is the reported signal similar to you "proper" meter?

Cheap Things NO GOOD & Good Things NO Cheap. Learn The Lesson the Hard Way.

These meters are More for Caravan'ers  & RV Users to setup Sat & FTA. They are very Basic. I have Compared two of those meter Readings with an  IKUSI , PROMAX & Sefram Pro Meters and the "CRAPLINK" Fell Way Short.

How would one have that "Heap Of Crap" Calibrated?????

All Good Matey, Stick with the promax & Save your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Now this One is Funny.
A Customer (No Names) got an Installer in to quote him on Foxtel & FTA Points in 24 Rooms. The Installer Gave him a Quote then went home and had a Read of the Consultants Specifications for the Install, The Consultants had specified IP TV.  To cut a long story Short, I just got a Call from that installer asking me “What is IP TV” and How Much will it Cost?

The Price is way more than he had quoted. And “YES” He has NO Meter Whatsoever. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Here's an even better meter ;-)

http://cgi.ebay.com....em=200755442145

I like this part in the description

"UP FOR BIDS IS THE DVB-T SIGNAL FINDER ."
.
.
.
"THIS IS THE ENTRY LEVEL METER BUT I HAVE USED IT BEFORE AND I ACTUALLY USE THE SAME MODEL FOR INSTALL AND THEY HAVEN'T LET ME DOWN."

How can they say DVB-T, could it tell the difference between analogue (or any other RF) and digital tv? The best I could see it would be have is some band pass filters they may be able to limit it to the TV bands but that would be it.

If you call Access Antennas,0894464433 we have a solution to fix the 6909 .
We had the same problem initially.

The new Units don't seem to have that problem, Just the older versions need an upgrade. Keep in mind that These units DO NOT Have Mer, Ber Readings.

MATV Guru, I gave the meter back to the mate not long after starting this thread.

The satlink was only ever gonna be something for private use (not work), if i was impressed by it, which I wasnt (and not just because it wouldnt tune properly).

I ended up getting one of these:
http://radioparts.co... DIGITAL SIGNAL

Its available elsewhere cheaper, and does much more, just cant feed a voltage up a line. Compared to both a Promax and Sefram professional meter that I have used for work in the intervening period, its pretty close too measurment-wise (MER/BER/dBuV).

You are Very Correct 'nbound'

It's ALL About the Numbers we pull-in & we Know with that data How the Signal will react, While some rely on pretty pictures o a Screen.

The Labgear, is a good cheap one that will do the job

As Stated before, I have upgraded to an IKUSI DSA-840 , So Far I Have had great Battery life & Flawless Performance. No matter which Brand one looks at, It's Product Support that is Most Important in Australia.
