Sorry, another "which do I buy thread?"

Looking at either a Samsung 59" or LG 60"

I've read good and bad about both

At this cheaper end, is it really just up to what I perceive to be better? or are they really just the same?

One of those brands is EXTREMELY unpopular, the other is quite popular. My choice would be Panasonic, having had one of the two brands you mentioned (the unpopular one) and a three year battle to get a refund. Not just the TV was crap, the company was dreadful  to deal with.

On the other hand, the 3 or 4 LG products I own are trouble free anywhere from 1-4 years old.  Hit up a few review websites like HDTV test, or go with personal preference/style. See if either offer smart functions you might find useful etc
